Summary: The Construction Inspector performs inspection activities for LJA Rail on behalf of our clients on Rail and other Transportation projects. The Construction Inspector works directly with the Construction Manager, Project Manager(s), client representatives, contractors, subcontractors and other team members to help ensure safety and develop projects that meet plans and specifications requirements.
General Responsibilities:
• Oversee contractor construction activities.
• Monitor project safety, discuss issues and necessary corrections with contractor and recognize when to stop work for safety infractions
• Prepare and submit daily, weekly, monthly reports as required
• Interprets plans, specifications, and contracts for railroad, roadway, drainage, and/or structural construction
• Clearly communicates through verbal and written means as needed for job performance
• Participates in and/or conducts project-level meetings as required.
• Participate in daily safety meetings.
• Meets with client and other project stakeholders as needed.
Required Education:
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Prefer an individual with an associate degree in engineering or construction technology
Required Experience:
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to build strong relationships.
• Minimum 2 years railroad construction experience
• Computer skills Microsoft Office
Physical Requirements:
• Driving to and from various projects and other outside meetings
• Ability to perform construction monitoring & inspection tasks on an active jobsite in a safe, proficient manner
• Ability to represent LJA and its clients in a professional manner at all times
• Must have a clear driving record; a DMV check will be conducted
• A clear background check and drug-screen will be required in order to acquire certifications necessary to perform work on railroad property
Other Requirements:
• Travel will be required.
• Job sites will have uneven ground and will require walking/standing for long periods of time; possible climbing
• Work in inclement (hot/cold/rain) weather
• Work non-standard hours/days, including some weekend or holiday work on occasion
