Covia Energy, a leading provider of proppant to the oil and gas industry with a differentiated footprint of low-cost, logistically advantaged mining and terminal assets serving all major U.S. shale basins, is seeking an Operations Manager, to be based out of the company’s Crane, TX. facility. Covia Energy is in the process of separating into a standalone company from Covia Corp., which will focus on industrial silica applications.
The Operations Manager will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Crane plant. This position will also direct activities to execute plans and achieve production goals while maintaining a safe work environment and meeting environmental compliance requirements.
Duties/Responsibilities
• Set high standards for workplace safety. Understand and enforce MSHA regulations and Covia’s Corporate Safety & Health policies and procedures, ensuring employees are properly trained and equipped to perform jobs in the safest manner.
• Enforce high standards for plant housekeeping.
• Direct safe mining, processing, and shipping activities.
• Troubleshoot operational issues as they arise.
• Coordinate with Maintenance and Production to ensure equipment availabilities and production requirements are met and in compliance with quality control procedures.
• Coordinate with plant personnel, Customer Service, and Sales on daily basis regarding shipments.
• Oversee compliance with Environmental, Quality, Shipping, Purchasing, and Administration standards and policies.
• Work with the Engineering department on plant expansion and improvement projects.
• Coordinate with suppliers, consultants and contractors on continuous improvement projects as required.
• Ensure compliance with all governmental laws and regulations.
• Coordinate with Mine Planning and Geology to ensure proper implementation of the mine plan. Ensure proper reclamation practices are performed and adequate reserves are available.
• Manage the interviewing and hiring process for all hourly positions.
• Oversee employee training, development, and performance. Participate in disciplinary processes as required.
• Prepare, administer, and review performance reviews of direct reports and their subordinates.
• Manage and create long term capital project planning and justification.
• Identify and prepare capital expenditure plant improvement projects.
• Prepare Expenditure Requests for approved capital projects.
• Review daily plant production and prepare weekly reports.
• Assume all responsibilities of the Plant Manager in the absence of the Plant Manager.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical major strongly preferred.
• 5+ years of related heavy industry experience required. Mining or mineral processing experience strongly preferred.
• 2 + years of front-line supervisory experience required.
• Management experience in leading and developing teams to deliver results.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
