Summary: The Patient & Community Outreach Manager develops and implements strategies in support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s goals (LLS) including: conduct outreach to raise awareness and connect more patients with LLS, as soon after diagnosis as possible, with an emphasis on underserved populations; provide ongoing support and education and facilitate access to quality care for patients and caregivers; and build healthcare provider and community relationships to increase referrals of blood cancer patients and caregivers to LLS. The Patient & Community Outreach Manager will provide or coordinate information, services, community education, and outreach to patients and caregivers, survivors, and healthcare professionals in their coverage areas. This role will serve as a key mission leader in the region for which they are responsible.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Community Engagement and Health Equity
• Promote LLS as an essential resource for disease, treatment, and support information for blood cancer patients and families.
• Design and implement outreach initiatives to expand LLS reach, including conducting culturally tailored outreach within underserved communities across the local region.
• Foster and maintain relationships with community-based organizations and healthcare delivery institutions.
Volunteer Development and Leadership
• Engage volunteer leaders to better reach local oncology professionals and key stakeholders, to build relationships with LLS region colleagues, and to assist with patient outreach and community events.
• Develop and maintain a volunteer infrastructure to support all aspects of the role.
Community Education and Services
• Create resources and programs that allow for deeper patient engagement throughout the cancer journey.
• Conduct community-based patient education programs in select markets, including underserved areas.
• Assess the need for support, services, and education for patients and providers in the Region.
Mission Integration
• Collaborate and partner with internal stakeholders, including other Education & Services staff, Region Executive Directors, and philanthropy colleagues to ensure joint planning, mutually beneficial support, and effective advancement toward overarching LLS goals and strategies.
• Partner with LLS colleagues to provide information about the LLS mission to internal and external stakeholders, including staff, potential volunteers, donors, and funders.
• Partner with LLS public policy and advocacy staff to identify advocates and patient stories and maintain engagement in policy initiatives.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements:
• BA or BS required; advanced degree in health or social sciences related discipline preferred.
• 4-6 years of related experience.
Position Requirements:
• Experience and skills in relationship management in healthcare, community health outreach, healthcare service delivery, health education programming, and volunteer development.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be able to articulate the LLS Mission (Research, Patient & Professional Programs, Advocacy/Policy) to a wide audience.
• Strong cultural competency and regular practice of cultural humility.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and communities.
• Strong healthcare knowledge base with oncology experience preferred.
• Strong problem-solving, priority-setting and project management skills.
• Ability to work independently, thrive under pressure and perform multiple tasks.
• Fundraising experience a plus.
• Strong computer skills required.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
• Must reside within the Region area(s) managed.
• Position may require 25% to 50% travel; night and weekend work will be required.
• Physical demands are minimal and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations.
• This role can be located in either Portland, OR with a salary range of 60K-67K or can be located in Seattle, WA with a salary range of 65K-72K.
• Work environment is representative and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations.
