TITLE: Unit Secretary/Monitor Tech
JOB OVERVIEW: The Unit Secretary/Monitor Tech is responsible for monitoring patients and responding to readings outside of normal range in addition to clerical and receptionist duties on the unit.
AREA OF ASSIGNMENT: Patient Care Services
HOURS OF WORK: Variable
RESPONSIBLE TO: Unit Manager, Administrative Supervisor, and/or Charge Nurse
Prerequisites
One year of acute hospital experience required.
Familiarity with medical terminology.
Able to organize and work independently.
Able to multi-task and manage multiple responsibilities.
Evidence of good communication skills, both oral and written, including ability to spell accurately and write legibly.
Evidence of typing/basic computer experience.
General Qualifications
Capable of comprehending, executing, and acting within scope of practice.
Demonstrates excellence in communication skills and customer service.
Dress professionally and follow VMC uniform standards.

Essential Responsibilities And Competencies

Greets and assists visitors as they arrive to department.
Safety
Recognizes and responds appropriately to all emergency codes.
Answers intercom and triages calls so that patient needs can be met in a timely fashion.
Adheres to infection control standards.
Participates in emergency and disaster plans/drills.
Demonstrates ability to use patient care technology (MobileView, Emergin, Right Fax).
Completes all required annual education in a timely manner.
Monitor Tech
• Recognizes and responds appropriately to emergency situations.
• Demonstrates understanding and proficiency in EPIC monitoring software, camera monitoring equipment and other communication platforms.
• Communicates any malfunctions to Charge RN or Bio Med.
• Demonstrate proficient knowledge of ECG rhythms as validated during annual competency review.
Clerical
Organizes and maintains efficient work area.
Completes department and unit forms according to established guidelines.
Updates phone rosters as necessary.
Demonstrates ability to differentiate structure and functions of VMC departments and make appropriate referrals.
Standard Process
Able to adhere to standard process as set by role.
Evaluate work processes and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
