Engineering Office (Design): This position will work in the District’s in-house design section under the direction of the Roadway Design and Bridge Design Engineers. Duties will include preparing detailed plans using CADD software and quantity calculations in compliance with standard practices and ODOT specifications. Work will include a wide range of transportation projects that include but not limited to traffic control/pavement/bridge maintenance projects, culvert replacements, and bridge rehabilitation.
Reviews and designs simple plans (i.e., guardrail, two-lane resurfacing, striping, ditch lay-overs, minor structures) for proposed highway construction projects/improvements, & receives training in standard plans or projects in Production, under supervision of higher level engineer. Provides technical support to the engineers, designers, realty personnel and utility personnel in the design and development of simple highway construction plans and right of way plans; Uses CADD software to assist with detailed drawings of roadway plans using standard techniques applicable to the project; Familiar with management information systems as they relate to the delivery of the project (i.e., Ellis).
Coordinates and request field work as necessary; makes calculations (e.g., profile grade, vertical and horizontal curves, right of way parcel closures); researches records (e.g., existing roadway plans, property records) to provide information for plan preparation and right of way acquisition.
Checks calculations by others; reviews roadway plans and right of way plans for conformance; participates in pre-construction and post-construction meetings; participates in field reviews of project sites to collect data or confirm existing information. Performs other related duties.
4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in engineering related technical experience in construction/rehabilitation/maintenance projects or planning & design of civil engineering projects or materials testing, with experience to be commensurate with position to be filled. • Or completion of associate degree program in engineering technology; 2 yrs. engineering related technical experience in construction/rehabilitation/maintenance or planning & design of civil engineering projects or materials testing, with experience commensurate with position to be filled.
