The Sr Operations Training Simulator (OTS) Engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining an Operations Training Simulator that appropriately models the Duquesne Light Company (DLC) Operations Center real-time operating environment to support DLC Operations Center training needs.
Location: Hybrid, downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at Woods Run Complex
Job Responsibilities
• Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot DLC’s Operations Training Simulator to support training of DLC Operations Center personnel
• Coordinate with internal teams including the Operations Center Training team and the Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Team to design, develop, and evaluate scenarios in the OTS to support training and exercise needs
• Work closely with internal teams to manage the OTS simulator availability and schedule to support training and exercise needs
• Develop and maintain a process to rapidly establish base cases from real time conditions
• Develop training materials, procedures, and/or other forms of documentation to support the use of the OTS by Operations Center personnel
• Assist with the evaluation of training and maintain documentation required to demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements
• Identify and recommend improvements to system modeling
• Perform simulation analysis in support of Reliability Engineering team testing
Education/Experience Required
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or relevant discipline.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited college or university preferred.
• Seven (7) years related work experience that demonstrates:
• Familiarity with EMS or SCADA systems
• Familiarity with real-time electric power system operations
• Strong technical background including proficiency with troubleshooting
• Valid state driver’s license
Education/Experience Preferred
• Utility experience, specifically electric utility
• Knowledge of OSI Monarch SCADA
• Experience with Operations Technology simulation
• Studies of system performance and its relationship to system operator actions
• Knowledge of system simulators such as Matlab/Simulink
• Knowledge of federal and state electric utility requirements and policies concerning electric system operations
• Knowledge of State Estimator Modeling
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
• Familiarity with SQL, Python, and Power BI
