Position Summary:
Designs, implements, support LAN/WAN, and wireless network infrastructure to ensure the facility meets patient care and strategic objectives through network infrastructure. Position requires the demonstration of routing and switching principles, network capacity planning and the aptitude to design and architect network solutions for operational support and hospital projects. The engineer must act as a point of escalation and technical resource for network related issues. Ability to communicate with technical and non technical hospital staff is imperative to the success of the work performed in this role. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility for maintaining both internal and external relationships. Demonstrates the ability to be accountable for one’s decisions and recognizes when management approval is needed.
Position Requirements:
Formal Education / Training:
Bachelor of Science Degree from a technical or trade school, or at least three years combined experience engineering, implementing, and supporting LAN/WAN and Wireless Cisco network infrastructure (routers, switches, VPN’s, IPS and firewalls). Cisco CCNA or CCNP preferred.
Workplace Experience:
Significant exposure to LAN/WAN routing/switching, wireless support and design. Proactively monitors and tests network health and performance. Supports and maintains firewall and infrastructure documentation as it relates to system configuration, support, and processes.
Equipment and Skills Training:
Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge in routing and switching, and Cisco network Infrastructure (Firewalls, IPS Routers, Switches, IPS, and Wireless). Versed in LAN/WAN protocols (TCP/IP, OSPF, and BGP). Knowledge of network management and monitoring tools.
Physical Environment:
Familiar with office setting and all areas pertinent to the position.
Physical Effort:
Requires significant unrestricted movement in and around entire hospital campus, viewing computer screens for long periods of time, and the ability to stoop, bend, reach and lift in areas where computer equipment exists, including small closets, under desks and shelves.
Key Results:
Administers the operation of all LAN/ WAN related equipment and services
Maintains network infrastructure integrity through security practices
Analyzes, troubleshoots, and resolves issues with network hardware
Provide reports for budgeting and performance of network for future planning.
Maintain any records for equipment inventory, system configurations, preventive maintenance, etc.
Provides thought leadership in the design and growth of network infrastructure.
Conducts routine monitoring of network system logs for anomalies or malicious network behavior
Mentors members of the IT engineering team, and coordinates work assignments and status reporting
Leads research and investigation of new technologies to be deployed in the network
Researches and resolves difficult and complex problems junior team members have been unable to resolve
Performs High-level root cause analysis for network service interruptions
