Sr. Manufacturing Engineer
Job Description:
Summary:
The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer will handle the monitoring and maintenance of technical aspects of the fabrication process, looking at a variety of metrics gathered throughout the process. They will coordinate and integrate the manufacturing process, as well as analyze efficiency data and process flow. The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer works with the manufacturing manager to ensure standards for manufacturing are maintained, as well as in developing new production methods and implementing new product processes.
Responsibilities:
• Maintains a physical presence in the workplace.
• Provide technical support to plant operations.
• Development of process documentation, including process stack sheets, process routings, PFMEAs, process flow diagrams, and error proofing plans.
• Development of cost estimates for new and major programs, often working from early concept cross sections, concept drawings, concurrent engineering discussions, and evolving assumptions.
• Design of manufacturing systems with a focus on continuous improvement related to quality and throughput capability of the production equipment.
• Develop and implement machine specific as well as major program Capital Appropriations Projects.
• Develop RFQ packages for new machinery and equipment.
• Analysis of RFQ proposals for new machinery and equipment.
• Manage the purchase and receipt of most items related to Capital Appropriations Projects.
• Manage the tryout and evaluation of new machinery and equipment.
• Manage all costs, and report status monthly, related to Capital Appropriations Projects.
• Participate in re-occurring cross functional team meetings for new and major programs with an ability to influence across business functions.
• Participate in DFA/DFM activities in support of new product design work.
Competencies & Behavior:
• A firm understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
• An understanding of lean manufacturing concepts.
• An understanding of machine tool specifications, construction, and maintenance, including the ability to document this knowledge in RFQ packages and Best Practice documents, and to participate in specification revisions.
• High level of analytical ability.
• CAD proficiency (preferably NX and/or AutoCAD).
• Good written and oral communication skills, including regular and effective communication across functions and with direct management.
• The ability to provide relevant, essential technical guidance to support management.
• The ability to dissect complex issues, overcome obstacles, and learn from failures with a focus on executing solutions.
• The ability to interact effectively with senior levels of management while providing executive summaries, of gaps and needs, that allow time for their assistance.
• The ability to work effectively in a cross functional group setting.
• The ability to work independently.
• The ability to multitask.
• The ability to consider business impact beyond a specific functional area.
• Strong computer skills, including MS Office.
• The ability to coach and mentor others, always leads by example.
• Expertise in at least one of the following areas: Machining of rotating components, Machining of prismatic components, Machining of gears.
Preferred:
• NX CAD proficiency
• Formal problem-solving training.
• Experience in the implementation of major production launches.
• Specific specialized skills, including CNC programming, CMM programming.
• Familiarity with QS and TS quality systems requirements.
• An understanding of transmission fundamentals.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
• 5+ years’ experience in Manufacturing Engineering role
• Experience with statistical qualification of machinery, equipment, and gages, and the ability to improve and document our methods for completing these tasks.
Preferences:
• 7+ years’ experience
• Experience in working effectively with hourly employees in a manufacturing environment.
