Position Overview
The Menlo College Athletics Department seeks applications for the position of Sports Information and Operations Director. This is a full-time, 10-month, exempt position, and reports jointly to the Associate Director of Athletics, Chief Operating Officer and Director of Sports Marketing and Communications. The description of responsibilities below is intended to be a descriptive but not necessarily all-inclusive list of responsibilities.
The Sports Information and Operations Director is a member of the Department of Athletics and is responsible for assisting Menlo College’s intercollegiate athletics program and establishing policies and procedures that achieve the parallel goals of development of quality, competitive athletics teams and support the individual education goals of student-athletes. The Sports Information and Operations Director serves as the secondary sports information and game operations contact for all sports programs and provides leadership with goal-setting, performance management of student workers within the department.
The position will abide by all the NCAA Division II, PacWest Conference, and Menlo College Athletics Department rules and regulations. Failure to follow NCAA, conference or Menlo College rules will result in my immediate dismissal from all duties.
Responsibilities
The following is intended to be a descriptive but not necessarily all-inclusive list of responsibilities.
1) Work to maximize College resources while advancing the department goals.
2) Serve as the secondary Sports Information and game operations contact for the Athletics Department.
3) Duties include but are not limited to: updating rosters, creating game day programs, conducting pre and post-game interviews, writing and distributing press releases internally and to local media members, updating rosters and statistics, actively managing event-day Sports Information staff, producing live web streaming and performing play-by-play broadcasts as needed, maintaining and operating StatCrew, Presto and DakStats statistical software, setting up live statistics for every home contest, managing coach and athlete bio information, nominating coaches and student-athletes for preseason, weekly and postseason awards, serve as liaison to conference office
4) Assist in writing feature stories to be used on www.menloathletics.com and in the Menlo Advantage Magazine
5) Assist in processing all local media interview requests for assigned sports and inform media of all major happenings, upcoming events, and points of interest
6) Assist in updating record books and student-athlete and coaches’ bios in a timely manner for assigned sports
7) Assist in maintaining statistical archives for assigned sports
8) Assist in Game Operations functions to include scheduling and managing student employees, staffing, hiring and onboarding new student employees and managing a budget, liaison for visiting team, coaches and officials, serve as on-site supervisor for home contests
9) Assist in producing regular, engaging content to promote assigned sports and the Athletics department on social media
10) Assist with all Athletics Department event planning, including but not limited to: Fall Athlete Check In, Hall of Fame, OAKtoberfest, and other annual department fundraisers
11) Maintain open lines of communication and strong working relationships across campus.
12) Contribute to the overall success of the intercollegiate athletics program by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Director of Athletics, Chief Operating Officer.
Accountability
Accountable for assisting in the overall management of the Athletic Marketing and Game Operations within the Athletics Department, including administrative duties, specifically the mission, vision, goals and objectives. The Director of Sports Marketing and Communications must abide by all applicable NCAA, athletic conference (PacWest), and Menlo College Athletics Department rules and regulations.
Job Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred in sports marketing, media relations, marketing, sports management, or journalism.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills as well as written and oral communication skills.
• Experience in athletics administration is required, preferably at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) level.
• Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations governing recruitment, student-athlete eligibility, and related functions.
• Demonstrated proficiency in industry-standard statistical platforms.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
• Demonstrated knowledge of marketing, promotions and social media best practices.
• Demonstrated experience overseeing the day-to-day administrative and operational functions of an athletics department.
• Substantial budgetary experience is requested, and experienced fund-raising is preferred.
• A dedication to the success of student-athletes in their academic and athletic endeavors, and a commitment to integrity, general equity, and diversity.
• Demonstrated experience to supervise, direct, and manage others effectively.
• Ability to work with other professionals across campus.
• Ability to work non-traditional schedules, including nights and weekends.
