We are seeking a Senior Materials Scientist who will bring domain knowledge, develop pioneering technologies, build portfolios, and help advise a talented team of scientists and engineers in chemistry and the physical sciences. The successful candidate will influence research priorities, build and lead interdisciplinary teams, and pursue bold, transformative ideas for US government agencies. You will be joining a hardworking team of engineers and scientists who develop novel sensors, materials, and tools for the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, and other agencies. As a member of our team, you will work with physicists, engineers, chemists, and biologists to tackle our nation’s most important problems.
As a Senior Materials Scientist…
• Your primary responsibility will be to acquire external funding and lead interdisciplinary project teams to field new technologies for both civilian and military applications
• You will participate in the development of strategic foci
• You will help leadership execute strategic priorities by writing targeted proposals, building partnerships, and providing technical guidance
• You will help maintain a culture of creativity and collaboration
• You will advise early-career scientists and principal investigators
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you…
• Possess a Ph.D. in materials science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a subject area relevant to the duties as described
• Have at least fifteen (15) years of professional research experience as a scientist or engineer, with a demonstrated track record of obtaining funding as a principal investigator
• Have developed and matured novel methods in applied material science, synthetic and polymer chemistry, environmental science, or renewable materials.
• Have experience managing projects, and maturing technologies from the concept phase through field demonstration and realization.
• Have excellent communications skills, including the ability to convey complex technical ideas to diverse audiences, such as sponsors and executive leadership.
• Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Final Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

• Have experience with defense applications and the defense acquisitions process.
• Are familiar with government research priorities in material science, additive manufacturing, environmental initiatives.
• Possess a record of successfully transitioning technologies to market.
• Bring demonstrated expertise in science and technology strategy development, road mapping, and research investment.
• Have prior experience with large government research and development programs across multiple government agencies
