What you will do
• With minimal direction, exhibit innovation and initiative while engaging all portions of the business to identify critical business projects that are of most value to the organization and assessing corresponding resources required.
• Use substantial knowledge of the business to effectively anticipate horizontal impacts caused by project implementation and take action to remediate.
• Guide project managers and work with cross functional teams to both develop and deliver on project requirements, budget, OKRs, deadlines, training, documentation, and measuring return on investment (ROI).
• Quantify and document operational and financial impact of projects utilizing cost benefit analysis/ROI.
• Serve as a key contributor to senior level planning sessions to provide input in establishing the key direction of the division and cross functional quarterly planning and associate capacity discussions.
• Communicate effectively and to create and deliver presentations, flexing the approach to ensure the content resonates with various levels of associates, management, and executives.
• Manages and leads a team of project managers that establish and track cross-functional deliverables and key milestones for multi-track initiatives and ensures that the teams are efficiently and productively executing on plans. Ensures roadblocks, risks and impediments are removed and managed and that the team utilizes end user change management processes.
• Stay current on best practices in Agile and Waterfall delivery and project management and advocate for/implement continuous improvements that make sense for CarMax Auto Finance
• Provide input to Director of Project Management regarding analysis on annual staffing, budget needs, and manage the process of reconciling resource usage on an ongoing basis.
• Create and maintain project management methodology, governance, and documentation to provide consistent, quality, ensuring project managers adhere to this methodology and interactive practices and status reporting, teaming with the analyst teams.
Manage quarterly planning and portfolio vision and updates, partner with CAF Strategic Program Management Team and CAF Director plus associates.
Associate Development
• Plays an active role in identifying, assessing, and developing talent across the team and leads a succession plan to groom future leaders.
• Hire, train and develop associates to reach their full potential – understand their goals and needs, partner in their development, provide advice, feedback, training, and advocacy.
• Develop and maintain positive team dynamics and high morale across cross-functional team.
Purpose of the role
Senior Managers of CAF Project Management have a passion for knowledge and project management tools to support the CarMax Auto Finance business and create best in class functionality for the teams to execute business strategies. The candidate for this role will have strong influencing skills, a strong understanding of the organization’s needs, navigating the organization to influence decision makers and win trust, recognizing roadblocks, delivering solutions and influencing the priorities of both the business and the team. A candidate for this role will have the ability to work independently, lead multiple projects and cross functional teams simultaneously, and be able to shift focus and priorities as needed to internal and external change factors. In addition, the candidate will be involved in the management and development of team members and play a key role in identifying and growing talent for the organization.
Qualifications and Requirements
• Four-year college degree (BA/BS) in related field
• 5+ years of relevant work experience, with a proven track record of managing large projects and leading cross-functional teams
• 5+ years managing direct reports
• Consumer credit or auto finance related experience a plus
• Agile experience, CMS, PMP, additional certification(s) preferred
• Experience with technology development or a strong working knowledge of application development life cycle and general programming principles
• Exceptionally strong working knowledge of MS Office suite and MS Project
• Internal Candidates must have completed (or in the process of completing) the Senior Management Development Program
