Facilities Management’s Health System Physical Plant at the University of Virginia is seeking an experienced Senior HVAC Assistant who provides expertise in the HVAC field. A Senior HVAC Assistant assists HVAC Mechanics with HVAC repairs and works independently as appropriate, cleans job sites, trains on more advanced installations and emergency repairs, and follows all customer service and safety protocols. The incumbent hired at this level may be considered for promotion once they have attained the required experience and licensure for the next level.
Duties Include:
• Perform HVAC repairs, along with diagnostic and preventative maintenance on a variety of air conditioning units, ventilation equipment, and temperature and humidity controls, and refrigeration equipment.
• Develop an increasing knowledge of types of material and equipment used for the various utility systems involved in University projects.
• Maintain accurate records on time tickets, job requests, and work orders.
• Determine material and equipment for specific jobs, as well as initiate purchase orders.
• Maintain compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations. Use personal safety equipment as instructed, and act in accordance with safety guidelines.
• Meet with and respond to customer requests on work status in coordination with supervisor.
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Four years of related HVAC experience. Experience in residential service environments is highly preferred.
Licensure: Valid Driver’s license. Journeyman or higher HVAC license is preferred.
Compensation:
The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $21.00 to $25.00 per hour ($43,680 – $52,000 Annually), commensurate with experience. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:
Employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands-on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks). Employee must have normal vision and hearing (correctable), and for some areas of employment, color vision and sense of smell.
