Description
Under immediate supervision, this position is responsible for providing unskilled/semi-skilled labor or performing basic office tasks.
Examples of Work
The following examples are intended only as illustrations of various types of work performed. No attempt is made to be exhaustive. Related, similar, or other logical duties are performed as assigned. The Department may require employees to perform functions beyond those contained in job descriptions. The Department may modify job descriptions based on Department needs. The Arkansas Department of Transportation is an “at will” employer.
• Answer phone calls and direct inquiries.
• Type and file documents and operate fax and/or copy machines.
• Digitally scan documents.
• Perform grounds maintenance duties such as mowing, raking, collecting and disposing of trash, and maintaining associated equipment.
• Perform custodial work such as sweeping and mopping.
• Flag traffic and assist in roadway maintenance.
• Assist in carpentry work, painting, or other unskilled/semi-skilled labor.
• Assist skilled or professional staff as required.
Minimum Requirements
No applicant under the age of 16 will be considered for temporary employment, and temporary employees under the age of 18 will be limited to working in office environments only. Ability to read and write. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to perform manual labor and work in all weather conditions for field positions. Ability to utilize computer software and operate fax, copier, and scanning equipment for office positions.
High School Cooperative Education: High school students can attend classes for half a day and work for AHTD the other half. The students must be enrolled in some type of “school to work” class (COE, JAG, etc.) in order to be eligible.
Seasonal Employment: Students may work for the ArDOT in a temporary status during their summer or winter break from school. If the Department has a need, students may continue their employment throughout the school year as long as they are enrolled in at least nine (9) credit hours. An exception could be made in instances where less than nine (9) hours are required for the fulfillment of a degree (e.g. performing clinicals or where only one class is needed to finish the degree).
