Solebury School (New Hope, PA) seeks a part-time, 10 month employee who is responsible for providing short-term counseling services to boarding students in grades 9-12 during the weeknight hours. Approximate hours are after school until 9 p.m., with flexibility on both time and nights (12-18 hours per week), plus be on call remotely every third weekend. This is a new position to support the school’s growing boarding population and as such, the framework will be coordinated with the Director of Counseling. This person will collaborate and consult with the Director of Counseling, parents/guardians and faculty regarding student academic and emotional needs as well as address and assess crisis situations regarding students. This position is open to be filled fort he fall 2024 school year. While this is a part-time after-school/evening position, there is also an opening for a full time school school day counselor.
Essential Functions
• Provide counseling to students on an as needed basis, both individually and at the group level
• Crisis intervention
• Individual assessments
• Child abuse reporting
• Provide consultation to parents/guardians of Solebury students as needed (face-to-face or by phone)
• Provide referrals to outside therapists and resources
• Collaborate with Director of Counseling, teachers, administrators, and parents/guardians to develop appropriate and effective plans to meet the individual needs of each student
• Collaborate and consult with school counselors and individual therapists in the community as needed
• Lead faculty and community discussions as needed to enhance awareness around topics related to social and emotional well being
Qualifications:
Required
• Master’s degree in school counseling, social work, or a related field
• 1-2 years of clinical experience in a school setting
• Desire and ability to work in the evening, plus every third weekend on call
• A deep commitment to students’ social and emotional growth
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and to establish supportive relationships with all school constituencies
• Ability to maintain composure, confidentiality, tact, sensitivity, and flexibility during peak stress periods and crisis intervention situations
• Experience with multicultural counseling
• Experience and comfort with neuro-diverse populations and LGBTQIA+ populations
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
• May sit or stand for extended periods of time at a desk in front of a computer
• Duties are performed indoors, usually in an office environment, and occasionally outdoors
• Work nights and occasional weekends
