Registrar – Southside Physicians Network – Internal Medicine
PRIMARY FUNCTION/GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION
Responsible for ensuring that all patients are greeted and processed appropriately and routed to the appropriate testing area. Responsible for accurate registration and pre-registration of all patients, to include a professional patient interview, accurate insurance and computer coding, and appropriate documentation of the events surrounding the interview. Ensure that all necessary paperwork is decimated to the patient or appropriate locations. Oversees and prioritizes bed placement needs to ensure prompt and appropriate placement of patients.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Work requires ability to read, write, follow oral and written instructions, perform mathematical calculations, and communicate effectively at a level generally acquired through completion of a high school education.
• Knowledge of insurance verification/pre-certification, and benefits with preferred experience of 6 months to 1 year in patient registration/health care.
• Ability to perform in multiple computer applications.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and experience in ICD-9 coding is preferred.
• Work requires proficient keyboard skills with an average speed of 40 wpm.
• Demonstrates outstanding customer service skills; prefers at least one year customer service experience.
• Must be able to work under considerable stress using tact and diplomacy
• Must demonstrate the ability to work independently problem solve and be able to resolve conflict.
• Demonstrates organizational skills.
• Must demonstrate excellent telephone etiquette excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Degree or GED
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• One to two years of acute care experience
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
• Works closely with the Clinical Support Services team.
• Other duties as assigned
• Prior experience in the healthcare field or a related area is preferred but not required
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred but not required
• Knowledge in Microsoft Office, Cadence, and Connect care preferred but not required
SKILLS
• Possesses problem-solving skills, basic computer skills, 40 WPM typing skills with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Provides strong communication and excellent customer service skills by greeting patients and the community in a respectful manner
• Process admission paperwork and basic insurance verification, ensuring accurate patient identity for hospital billing systems
• Ability to answer internal and external calls in a friendly and helpful manner
• Must possess the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly
• Ensures patient flow is maintained and informs Supervisor of any department and patient issues immediately
• Coordinates and prioritizes bed placement needs to ensure prompt and appropriate placement of patients
• Other duties as assigned
