Business Need / Purpose of Role:
The Regional HSSE Manager supports implementation of HSSE systems, processes, programs, and compliance with all company, local, provincial, territory, state, and federal regulations at the locations and/or projects within their assigned region.
Works directly with the Head of Global HSSE and Regional Leadership to develop a culture of safety and environmental stewardship, where our employees’ safety and well-being is always first. Serves as a technical expert and resource in HSSE matters and serves as the resource in their assigned region of responsibility. Supporting across all business streams in the execution of HSSE systems, programs, policies, and processes. Field support, auditing, and continuous improvement will also be key responsibilities. Additionally, responsible for working cross-functionally with other roles including service delivery, operational excellence, human resources, etc.
• Culture & Change Champion; inspire team members to appreciate and be accountable for our safety culture.
• Plan, organize, manage, and conduct inspections and audits of the Company’s operations across all Business Streams including partnerships and sub-contractors (high-risk vendors) within their assigned region.
• Provide advice and support to Inchcape in respect to all HSSE related issues in line with Global HSSE Strategy Roadmap (including ESG strategy).
• Tracking of individual KPIs through a balance of quantitative and qualitative performance measures/KPIs that are aligned to the job – this will form part of annual objectives and reviewed against personal professional development targets.
Provides regional focus for all HSSE matters within assigned region across the following areas (but not limited to):
• Build capability to enable the site leadership teams to implement Inchcape’s HSSE strategy.
• Assist in the development of a year-on-year improvement plan in HSE key performance indicators and an Incident Injury Free culture.
• Provide site teams with coaching, mentoring and HSSE technical support to prevent incidents and injuries.
• Partnering and coaching the business leaders to successfully implement the Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Management System that is compliant with Inchcape’s timelines.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
• Identify health and safety legislative requirements and changes as it applies to their assigned region and with the agreement and approval of management integrate into the Health and Safety Management System.
• Provide advice, support and information for the availability and implementation of the Health and Safety Policy, HSE Management System, safety leadership and behavioral program by line management (including permit to work system in high-risk areas such as warehouses and other applicable Inchcape facilities)
• Conduct governance activities, data analysis into the HSSE Monthly performance report, research and other technical health and safety work to assure quality application and ongoing improvement of the HSE management system, safety leadership and behavioral program.
• Provide technical input to HSSE planning, HSSE risk management and management review processes e.g. dangerous goods, emergency preparedness.
• Assist management with developing, monitoring, and reviewing in consultation with employees the Inchcape Health, Safety and Environment Management System and HSE Plan with its objectives and targets. Communicate results within the business through to the Head of Global HSSE.
• Assist business units with incident investigation/root cause analyses, development of corrective/preventive action plans, and drive closure of associated actions.
• Support operational management to ensure that HSSE responsibilities of employees (including vendors) are effectively communicated.
• Quick thinking and comfortable in a creative setting and a fast-paced environment where each day brings new challenges and rewards.
• Strong business partner and relationship building capabilities across a diverse international group.
• Ability to understand, influence and persuade across all levels of the organization, exercising a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, poise, tact, and diplomacy to accomplish objectives.
• Ability to lead teams remotely and the ability to adjust communication style for different situations and culture.
• Ability to function comfortably in a fast-paced environment where each day brings new challenges.
• Must possess an advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel (macros, pivot tables, V-lookup), PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook.
• Must have an advanced communication (verbal, written and listening) skills in order to communicate at different levels throughout the organization and multiple cultures.
• Fluency in English verbal and written communication skills required. Bilingual – English/Spanish required; Trilingual English/Spanish/Portuguese a plus)
Education, Qualifications, Certifications, And Licenses
Education/Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field recognized equivalent from an accredited university preferred; equivalent experience maybe substituted for educational requirements. Associate degree in Maritime Transportation or related major in a public or accredited private academic institution preferred.
• Minimum three (3) of related experience and/or two (2) years of Shipping industry experience.
• Industry experience: logistics and professional services (preferably around ports / shipping desired, but not required).
• Experience with implementation and maintaining ISO 14001 and 45001 standards.
• Eligibility to work in the US.
Certifications:
• Certifications in the field of HSE such as the CSP, CIH, CHMM, IOSH or other certifications in the field of EHS are highly desirable or willingness to obtain.
• Qualifications in auditing such as lead auditor certification for ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 are desirable.
Licenses:
• Once selected for employment, federal regulations require that the applicant must either undergo a federal background check as part of the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program or already possess a TWIC. Travel:
• Requires occasional business travel within assigned region and out of hours work.
