The Opportunity
Our Diagnostics business currently has an opportunity for a Principal User Experience (UX) Designer. This position can be based in our San Diego, CA office. The primary function of this position is to apply technical expertise in user-experience design and user interface design to develop point-of-care, rapid in vitro diagnostics (IVDs) for Infectious Diseases. The position will focus on the user-facing design of product interfaces through the design, prototyping, and testing process. The Principal UX Designer will closely collaborate with key partner teams, such as human factors, instrument software and industrial design to create easy-to-use and technically feasible diagnostic product systems that deliver a well-considered overall user experience.
What You’ll Work On
• Work with R&D teams and the strategic marketing to design and develop user experience (UX) design and user interface (UI) design concepts and prototypes for diagnostic product systems based on user-research and product strategy.
• Apply your user experience (UX) design and user interface (UI) design skillset to create task-flow diagrams, UX/UI wireframes & prototypes across phases of the new product development process.
• Work with the human factors team and lead UX design & UX prototyping for usability studies to uncover user pain points & opportunities for design improvement.
• Work with the software instrument team to implement UX/UI design concepts balancing interaction design, visual design, and technical feasibility.
• Work with Industrial design to design product concepts and prototypes that demonstrate overall user experience for different end-users, use-scenarios, and environments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional project teams to identify key requirements that have an impact to UX/UI Design. Provide strategic guidance related to UX/UI Design; explain design approach, key considerations, and trade-offs in design concepts.
• Promote the goals of UX/UI design across the division through effective communication with leadership and collaborators.
• Coordinate design activities with vendors and consultants to ensure prototypes or design services meet project requirements and milestones.
• Identify and communicate with key contacts outside own area of expertise.
• Perform other duties & projects as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelors in User Experience Design, Product Design or similar field.
• 8 years of experience in User Experience Design.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Independent, organized, and meticulous.
Preferred Qualifications
• Proficiency with industry-standard design and prototyping tools including Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
• Demonstrable experience in designing, prototyping and launching exceptional end-to-end user experiences.
• Ability to distill requirements and stakeholder input into simple, intuitive UX/UI design concepts.
• Knowledge of web & mobile UI technologies, usability and accessibility standards.
• An online portfolio showcasing your design approach and impact, through work samples and case studies.
• Demonstrated experience in applying and evangelizing the human-centered design process.
• Experience in medical device development and design controls process.
• Experience working with human factors, software & industrial design.
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment.

The base pay for this position is $109,300.00 – $218,500.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
