A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available for a joint appointment at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Division of Medical Physics and Biophysics. A Research Fellow appointment at Harvard Medical School will be sought for the successful candidate. The Research Fellow will be working on a funded project with an established industry partner to develop and translate novel imaging technology into clinical treatment scenarios. Fellows will also be afforded the opportunity to participate in clinical training and the department’s CAMPEP-approved certificate program.
The position will lead the development and optimization of imaging processes to be implemented with a novel imager for accurate patient setup verification during radiation therapy treatment. This will involve both use and development of in-house computational applications as well as experimental measurements and data analysis. The successful candidate will be entering a highly collaborative environment, with frequent internal and industrial interfacing opportunities. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the scientific body of knowledge, including preparation of conference presentations and manuscripts.
Candidates from broad backgrounds are invited to apply, with PhD (or equivalent degree) in physics, astronomy, computer science, medical physics, imaging science, engineering, or related fields given preference. Highly developed communication skills – including, but not limited to written and oral delivery of scientific information and the ability to work well within a team structure – and considerable programming experience are both prerequisites. Experience with imaging physics and processing techniques, image reconstruction, and familiarity with Monte Carlo simulations are preferred. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and able to independently guide a research project.
The Medical Physics and Biophysics Division currently provides clinical, research and teaching services to the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and the Children’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School, as well as to the outreach Cancer Centers in the surrounding communities at Milford, South Shore, and Mansfield. Facilities include 13 Varian linacs including 2 stereotactic linacs, an Ethos, a dedicated MR-simulator, an MR-linac, 2 HDR units with dedicated CT scanner, a Co-60 TBI unit, and 7 CT-simulators. State-of-the-art pre-clinical focal irradiation facilities are also available.
The Brigham and Women’s Hospital is an equal opportunity employer and affirms the right of every qualified applicant to receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, national origin, sexual orientation, genetic information, disability, age, ancestry, military service, protected veteran status, or other groups as protected by law.
