The practice of a Physician Assistant shall include medical services within the education, training, and experience of the physician assistant that is delegated by the supervising physician.
Medical services rendered by physician assistants may include but are not limited to, obtaining patient histories and performing physical examinations; ordering and/or performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; formulating a diagnosis; developing and implementing a treatment plan; monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions; assisting at surgery; offering counseling and education to meet patient needs; making appropriate referrals.
Physician Assistants, in an emergency, shall be authorized to treat any medical disease and/or perform any medical and surgical procedures at the hospital for affiliates. An emergency, for these purposes, is defined as a situation in which any delay in administering treatment would result in serious harm to the patient or an immediate threat to the life of the patient, and a qualified practitioner is not immediately available.
Education/Skills Required
• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
• Registered as a Physician Assistant in New York State
• NCCPA certified
