Tuckahoe Orthopedics, a physician orthopedic practice, is seeking a full-time Triage registered nurse in our orthopedics department to provide a high-quality experience for our patients. We are looking for someone who will be responsible for assessing, evaluating, planning, implementing, and coordinating a treatment plan and achieving the goals of the nursing department. Under general supervision, performs professional nursing care for patients in a clinic setting, including nursing triage, nurse visits; initiates, plans, and evaluates nursing care and treatment plans; provides direction to licensed and unlicensed clinic staff.

DUTIES OF THE REGISTERED NURSE (RN) – ORTHOPEDICS:
The Telephone Triage is a positive influence on team members and encompasses a multitude of clinical and telephone triage skills that contribute to the overall flow of telephone triage processes. Responsible for providing assistive monitoring of telephone triage processes to ensure efficient and timely patient care. A team-based approach fostered with the ability to understand, utilize, and organize workload for optimal job performance.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Triage
• Performs a nursing assessment and patient triage which includes prioritizing cases, providing medical advice, making complex referrals, providing test results, and problem-solving complex cases by handling patient telephone inquiries and walk-ins requesting care.
• Receive and evaluate telephone consults determining the need for immediate or sub-acute evaluation.
• Provide pre-operative instruction to patients and post-surgical follow up which may include evaluations/care including wound care.
• Coordinate continuity of care with social services when needed.
• Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations.
• Operate and manipulate automated systems such as Epic, PACS, CaseTabs
Other Clinical
• Records medical histories using appropriate format; takes and records physiological measurements such as height and weight, temperature, if applicable.
• Performs basic nursing procedures such as injections, phlebotomy, and dressing changes; assists physicians during examinations as needed.
• Performs additional clinic and non-triage nurse duties such as instructing patients in general and specific medical care and health issues, providing skilled nursing services and treatment, administering and/or dispensing medication and injections; performs nurse visits as required.
• Perform post-surgical calls to patients and families to ensure instructions post surgically was understood and followed.
• Assist clinical team with chart prep prior to patient arrival for clinical which may include medication authorization.
Administrative
• Maintains awareness of current nursing protocols; participates in formulation/revision of protocols and practices; attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service education.
• Assists in the coordination of day-to-day clinic activities; orients, trains and directs other clinic staff in specific clinic operations and procedures.
• Maintains inventory and orders supplies, and medications.
• Performs quality control by activities such as monthly quality control check log and maintaining update calibration and quality control check for medical instruments and equipment.
• Assists other assigned R.N.s in overseeing clinical program.
• Assist with development of and implementation of telephone triage reports to improve quality triage processes and measures.
• Monitoring of telephone triage productivity/quality reports and performing periodic audits in collaboration.
Education and Experience:
• Current license to practice nursing in the state.
• Minimum of six month of recent experience as a professional nurse.
• Orthopedic and OR operating room experience preferred.
• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree Required, Field of Study: RN
• BLS CPR certification required.
