The University of Minnesota Medical Center represents an integrated academic health care system in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is the flagship facility of Fairview providing breakthrough medicine and redefining the health of our community. This location offers the widest range of hospital and clinical services provided through University of Minnesota Health East Bank in Minneapolis. Complete services range from primary care, emergency care and to care of patients with the most complex conditions. Areas of specialization throughout the hospital include solid organ (heart, kidney, lung, liver, pancreas) and blood and marrow transplantation, heart disease and cancer. This health care campus serves an all adult patient population.
This position is responsible for assisting the Manager/Director with department operations. Partners with nursing leaders to assure environment is conducive to excellence in nursing practice, this includes supervision of personnel and projects as delegated, including but not limited to hiring, discipline and performance evaluations.
The Perianesthesia Department has three phases of care:
• Pre & Post has 22 beds providing care for same day surgery patients, inpatients and surgical admits
• Post anesthesia care unit (PACU) has 21 beds and cares for 30-50 patients/day

Responsibilities Job Description
The PeriOp Supervisor supervises staff within perioperative services:
• Interviews and selects qualified employees to fill vacancies and establish a team.
• Supports orientation of new employees to role, department and organization.
• Provides a welcoming and supportive environment.
• Establishes effective relationships with staff, which promotes and improves employee engagement.
• Clarifies expectations.
• Provides feedback and coaching.
• Uses corrective action when necessary.
• Assists with development and completion of annual staff competencies, supervising compliance and takes action for non-compliance.
• Supports staff development and learning opportunities to meet identified needs.
• Provides timely, accurate, and fair performance reviews.
• Follows contract guidelines as applicable.
• Understands and follows human resource policies and practices.
• Partners with accountable nursing leader/s to assure nursing practice needs are addressed.
Assists in leading the day-to-day or shift-to-shift operations:
• Plans work schedules.
• Maintains appropriate staffing by adjusting volumes to meet the needs.
• Monitors and prioritizes assignments to assure timely, productive, and efficient use of resources.
• Uses creative solutions to resolve problems and keep operations running smoothly.

Assists with leading fiscal operations of the unit:
• Evaluates patient and clinical staffing and scheduling needs.
• Supervises budgets standards through assessment of variances and supporting action plans.
• Completes/audits payroll reports and timesheets.
• Supervises other resource utilization.
Collaborates with Nursing and Provider leadership to implement and evaluate standards of practice
Collects and analyzes quality data and applies process improvement methodology to insure deliver of safe and quality patient care
Demonstrates skills/abilities in provision of patient care within the periop environment
As needed, partners with clinical leaders to build an environment that advances evidence-based practice:
• Promotes a culture that encourages the staff to incorporate data and information into practice that will improve care and enhance patient outcomes.
• Uses administrative/management evidence to make decisions regarding a healthy work environment, prioritization, staffing and patient and employee happiness.

License/Certification/Registration
• Current Minnesota Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Operating Room Department
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Pre & Post Department
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Preferred
Education
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Experience
• Leadership within Perioperative or another applicable clinical environment
