This full time position involves teaching beginning and intermediate orchestra to 5th-8th grade students.
Specific Duties Include:
• Co-teacher, instructing classes and small groups of beginners in grades 4, 5 & 6 on violin, viola, cello and or bass.
• Assisting in teaching an intermediate-level orchestra class of 7th & 8th graders.
• Demonstrating a high level of responsiveness to students needs including the implementation of differentiated teaching strategies
• Demonstrating on your own personal instrument during instruction and other string instruments as needed.
• Leading sectionals/assisting during concert performances.
• Managing student behavior in a manner that optimizes the learning environment.
• Demonstrate ability to plan engaging lessons, field trips, prepare students in 6th grade, 7th& 8th Grade, and Honors Orchestra classes for adjudicated performances and festivals.
• Flexibility is needed to assist the department at all levels when scheduling issues and special events arise.
• Certain Saturdays and Weekends will be required for trips and adjudications
• Must participate in a minimum of 2 professional development opportunities per year in the strings area
• Must exhibit team spirit at all times with the goal of best serving our students at all levels in the orchestra department.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Degreed professional on a stringed instrument (cello or bass preferred).
• Experience teaching small groups of students and private teaching.
• Successful teaching experience in Elementary or Middle School preferred.
Required Skills:
• Fluency on stringed instrument: violin, viola, cello or bass (cello or bass preferred).
• Excellent verbal communication skills demonstrating tact and diplomacy with Parents, Colleagues, and Students
• Ability to work well with grades 4-8.
• Strong organizational and classroom management skills.
• Ability to work with other orchestra teachers already in place.
This Orchestra teacher position is a salaried, ten month exempt position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. EOE
