TITLE: MOHS Technician
JOB OVERVIEW: Under the supervision of the MOHS micrographic surgeon, the MOHS Technician will perform all functions in the Mohs histology lab including, but not limited to, frozen section embedding, microtomy, staining and filing. The Mohs Technician will be responsible for maintaining certification according to CLIA standards.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Chief Mohs Surgeon & Dermatology Clinic Manager
Prerequisites:
Graduate of an accredited Histotechnology program, preferred, but not required
Background in Biology or Chemistry and one year of of experience in a clinical or research laboratory. Preference given to experience in a Mohs laboratory.
Mohs certification or ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
Ability to understand medical/surgical terminology.
Experience with an electronic health record.
Ability to discern color as this is necessary to perform the job functions.

Essential Responsibilities And Competencies:
Understands and utilizes CLIA requirements and policies and procedures as a standard for the laboratory.
Performs all daily checks and quality controls as required based on standards and equipment requirements.
Prepares and maintains dilutions and stains.
Maintains and clean laboratory equipment per standard.
Schedules maintance of equipment, e.g. Cryostats according to OSHA standards.
Responsible for asuring that routine precentative maintenanceis performed on all equipment per protocol.
Monitors inventory levels of supplies and equipment on a regular basis and communicate with clinic leadership for ordering as needed.
Maintains log of supplies as they are ordered and received.
Organizes supplies and equipment in a systematic and accessible fashion.
Maps and chromacodes tissue specimens according to Mohs technique.
Cuts horizontal frozen sections.
Prepares microscopic slides.
Submits slides as requested by Mohs surgeon for viewing and diagnosis.
Maintains quality control on all slides processed and monitors ongoing QC study requirements.
Labels, files and stores histological slides according to protocol.
Enters Mohs map data accurately in Mohs database each day.
Keeps records as to the location of all slides in our possession.
Orders and returns slides to outside laboratories or offices.
Creates and maintains accurate files and logs needed for records. Enter, undate and record information accurately and timely.
Maintains CLIA documentation as required by guidelines.
Interact with patients in a professional and supportive manner.
Provides emergency assistance as required and under the direction of the appropriate authority or emergency team leader.
Participates in process improvement initiatives pertinent to the Mohs Laboratory.
Identifies areas of improvement and communicates to the Dermatology Leadership.
Other duties as assigned related to the Dermatology Clinic & job role.
