JOB SUMMARY
The Manager of Clinical Informatics 2 provides leadership, activity planning, coordination and direction with various departments, committees and councils to: assess current state practices, processes and content; Standardize and streamline to best practice; Facilitate adoption of new processes and tools within the Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH) Care Model. The Manager of Clinical Informatics 2 will work closely with BSWH Information Systems (IS) to coordinate and head operations through the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and other Health Information Technology (HIT) related implementations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
• Knows the continuum of service lines that work jointly to help hospital/clinic operations to provide ongoing design and development for the BSWH Care model as it evolves. May serve as the Operational Advocate for a service line. Coordinates scheduling & logistics for conducting User Acceptance Testing. Defines pass/fail criteria with Build Team and Stakeholders for mutual success.
• Acquires and utilizes knowledge beyond the EHR to include the holistic HIT portfolio to help their domain. Represents BSWH in industry presentations communicating innovative design and build to meet health care and business specific policies. Serves as coach and provides help to analysts, Clinical Informatics Coordinator (CIC), Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS), Clinical Informatics Lead (CIL), and Manager of Clinical Informatics 1. Builds and develops relationships with service line heads, vendors, and BSWH IS departments to further BSWH strategic initiatives.
• Serves as a domain Subject Matter Experienced in triaging issues and optimization requests in solving for enterprise solutions. Acts as an adviser, providing impartial thoughts on complex customer problems and initiatives, and assists with handling priority issues. Establishes appropriate routes of escalation. Develops tactics for their domain to help strategic initiatives that are in-line with the overall informatics strategy.
• Partners with Information Services/Project Management to head key workstreams within a project, e.g. discovery, overall design sessions, command center staffing and logistics for Health Information Technology projects. Helps with defining enterprise success metrics for assigned projects and works with local-level heads to align with those measures. Identifies key resources/stakeholders critical to project success.
• Oversees or performs the development of enterprise communication and change management planning related to HIT implementations for their domain in partnership with service line heads, BSWH IS, and other key stakeholders. May serve as head communicator to broad groups of audiences across the enterprise as part of the implementation plan.
• Builds and develops relationships with service line heads, vendors, and BSWH IS departments to further BSWH strategic initiatives. Partners with other informatics heads to align and oversee resources that do not directly report to this role in a formal structure.
The focus of this position will be the integration points between our Supply Chain HIT and the (EHR).
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Understand the physical flow of clinical products from purchase to clinical usage and the system flow of clinical products from Supply Chain HIT to EHR.
Support deployment of technologies necessary to enable visibility, control, and access of clinical products. Acts as a key project team member and clinical subject matter expert in technology functionality. Performs system testing and command center support for implementation. Provides ongoing support as a system clinical operations advocate to ensure the optimization of system adoption. Helps with defining enterprise success metrics and works with local-level leaders to align with those measures.
Serve as clinical stakeholder in on-going initiatives to align Supply Chain and EHR item data. Provides independent opinions on complex customer problems and initiatives. Builds and develops relationships with service line leaders, vendors, supply chain leaders, revenue integrity leaders, and BSWH IS departments to further BSWH strategic initiatives. Collaborates with other informatics leaders to align and oversee resources that do not directly report to this role in a formal structure
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Five or more years of experience in a clinical environment required. Five or more years of experience working in informatics role preferred.
• Epic Certification and Informatics Certification (ANCC, HIMSS) required.
• Licensed clinician such as nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist, pharmacy technician, dietitian, respiratory therapist, speech pathologist, etc. preferred.
• Ability to utilize critical thinking to know, document and optimize complex processes with appropriate solutions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships across organizational lines.
• Ability to make operational conclusions around how work gets done – quality and productivity standards, measurable goals for employees and project teams, etc.
• Ability to use broader targets to resolve how best to use resources to meet schedules and goals.
• Ability to make or approve effective hiring and termination conclusions.
• Ability to evaluate and recommend changes to policies, and establish procedures that affect the managed organization.
• Basic business knowledge, including but not limited to: annual planning and goal setting, adherence to budgets, employee compensation, compliance and risk management.

Cert Prof HC Inform/Man Sys (CPHIMS), Epic Certification (EPICCERT), BC-Informatics Nursing (RN-INFO): Must have one of the following:
— Epic Certification
— Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) from HIMSS
— Informatics Nursing Certification from ANCC.
