Department Overview
We believe our well coordinated clinical care contributes to our outcomes that are among the best in the country. Work as part of team that includes Cancer and Blood Disorder physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nursing, social work, physical therapy, nutrition, child life, clinic assistants and researchers.
The department at Children’s of Minnesota provides care for children of all ages with all types of malignancies including brain tumors, solid tumors, and leukemia; and blood disorders such as sickle cell disease, bleeding disorders, and anemia. As the largest provider of services for children with cancer and bleeding disorders in the region, the Cancer and Blood Disorders program focuses on providing well-coordinated knowledge-driven clinical care. We participate in national and international research and are leaders in research on supportive care and quality of life for children with cancer and bleeding disorders.
Position Summary
This is an unlicensed position responsible for accompanying Practitioners rounding on current patients to observe/listen and accurately document the patient encounter via real time transcription directly into the electronic medical record.
License/Certification/Registration required? No
Education:
• Completed sophomore year of college degree in pre-med, nursing, EMT/Paramedic, chemistry/biology or other professional or allied medical program.
• Course work in Organic Chemistry, Medical Terminology, and/or Human Anatomy and Physiology preferred.
• Intent to apply to Medical School is preferred.
Experience:
• Experience working as a medical scribe is preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and physiology.
• Demonstrated experience working with medical providers and allied health professionals is helpful.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure in a critical environment and maintain attention to detail in order to accurately document the patient encounter.
• Demonstrated observation, listening, interpersonal, and clarification skills in order to interact positively and productively with team members and families.
• Demonstrated knowledge of computers and technology.
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task.
• Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated strong desire to learn.
• Demonstrated ability to type 50 wpm or greater.
• Successful completion of a personal statement that demonstrates ability to succinctly respond to questions with good sentence structure and punctuation with command of the English language.
• Successful completion of a dictated scribe report with few errors, accurate capture of information and correct sentence structure.
