Overview
Position Summary:
Nusano has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer at our Valencia facility, Nusano’s Technology Development Center. This Mechanical Engineer will work with the Mechanical Engineering team to provide support for the development of our proprietary particle accelerator ion source and other nuclear science projects. To execute this project, we are looking to add talented people to the team who are mission-driven, provide diverse perspectives, and who have demonstrated exceptional results through a range of different pursuits. This team member will be primarily responsible for supporting the Ion Source Technology group, while also collaborating closely with others on the Development & Engineering (D&E) team to identify critical engineering needs as well as opportunities to optimize component designs and processes.
Responsibilities
What You’ll Do:
• Collaborate with physicists, engineers, and technical support staff, to develop designs for complex new devices requiring innovative designs and critical high-level analysis.
• Collaborate on the design of mechanical systems and their integration with high voltage, radiofrequency, high vacuum, mechanical structures, automation, and controls systems.
• Translate concepts into detailed engineering drawings, carry out design analysis, identify potential problems, and independently or collaboratively develop solutions.
• Provide simulation support for structural, thermal, and other design considerations.
• Author and maintain needed documentation for design, installation, and maintenance of the equipment.
• Develop test plans and participate in tests to qualify and evaluate the performance of equipment.
• Present project results and designs and respond to questions concerning engineering design and operation.
• Work with vendors and internal resources to fabricate, assemble, and validate components.
• Take full ownership of projects from conception to operational deployment and beyond.
• Work effectively and cooperatively within a team environment, including working with outside vendors on the manufacture and sourcing of components.
• Give and receive directions and communicate effectively across all teams within Development and Engineering.
• Perform with a personal safety mindset at the forefront of all work.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• Related professional work experience (4+ years)
• Demonstrated understanding of mechanism design, structural analysis, heat transfer, and thermal analysis, and ability to apply these to solve engineering problems (2+ years)
• Proficiency with SolidWorks CAD modeling (2+ years)
• Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office)
• Demonstrated analytical thinking and rapid learning
Preferred Requirements:
• Advanced manufacturing techniques (vacuum brazing, machining, experience with exotic materials)
• Structural and thermal FEA simulation experience
• GD&T and P&ID proficiency within ASME Standards
• Leadership experience
• Experience working with a quality program and quality standards
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to lift, push, and/or pull a maximum of 50 pounds.
• Must be comfortable working as a radiation worker.
• Work to be conducted in both an office environment and the production facility.
• Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Frequent use of computer with repetitive use of keyboard, mouse and manual dexterity.
• 2-8 weeks of travel per year for site visits, visiting vendors, and attending conferences.
SALARY: $100,000 – $120,000
