Overall Description
Lead Research Scientist (Innovation Support and Claim Substantiation, Life Sciences R&D)
Croda is seeking a skilled and motivated analytical scientist to support our development of new products and applications in Life Sciences. The position, in our New Castle, DE R&D center, requires a self-starter who will enhance existing capabilities in our Chromatography Laboratory and extend our expertise to new methods and applications.
Key Duties
• As a chromatography expert lead and develop the analytical capabilities of the IS team in the area of GC, LC, GPC and semi-prep LC
• Provide effective support in the characterization of new and existing products through timely planning, performing, and reporting customer requests and project work
• Develop analytical and semi-rep scale of new chromatographic methods to address customer and business needs
• Assist scientists in Life Sciences and Consumer Care applications teams in the effective application of the various chromatographic instruments and techniques within the IS Team
• Develop collaborations with partners both within Croda and in external organizations (e.g. vendors, academics, and customers) to enhance and expand the characterization capabilities of Croda R&D
• Interface with customers, suppliers, and colleagues as a recognized chromatography expert
• Prepare high quality written reports and presentation materials suitable to support the development of marketing and product literature
• Be able to work in a collaborative environment with a minimum of supervision
• Perform all duties within the Company’s safety, health, and environmental regulations.
• Travel time 10-20 %, principally to conferences, customer meetings, and other Croda locations for chromatography method transfer if needed
Experience & Education Required
• Ph.D. preferred in Analytical Chemistry or a related field with a focus on the application of chromatographic techniques
• 5+ years of relevant industrial or academic experience
• Broad experience in the application of separation techniques, ranging from small molecule separations to the characterization of synthetic and natural polymers. Experience in the latter, particularly with protein and RNA separations, is a plus.
• Ability to develop new analytical methods and modify existing ones through the application of sound scientific principles using various techniques such as GC, LC, GPC and semi-prep LC
• Proficiency with other analytical techniques (especially mass spectrometry).
• Experience mentoring and developing the technical capabilities of staff
• Proven ability to work both independently and in a team environment
• Drive to complete tasks according to agreed schedules and the needs of the business.
• Ability to communicate effectively through both written reports and verbal presentations.
• Able to work at the laboratory bench for up to 7 hours a day
