These elements are critical for enabling the execution of ORNL’s broader mission to accelerate scientific discoveries and their translation into energy, environment, and security solutions for the nation.
The Geoinformatics Engineering Group, within the Human Dynamics Section of the Geospatial Science and Human Security Division at ORNL is seeking a Geospatial Systems Architect. We are looking for candidates to research, design and develop geospatial data platforms, services, and computing with a focus on deploying real-time data architectures, designing hybrid cloud systems, and programming scalable applications for the next generation of geospatial science.
As part of our outstanding organization, you will focus on the design and implementation of full-stack scalable systems and data solutions for high-volume and high-velocity scientific data applications. These proposed solutions will include high performance computing that can be applicable for several geospatially focused research and development projects in energy, transportation, national security, and other cross-disciplinary geospatial domains.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
• Research, develop, and deploy advanced data architectures with various IT technologies including cloud, web (i.e. JavaScript, Java, PHP, NodeJS, Angular, Docker, etc.), and databases such as MongoDB, PostgreSQL, etc.
• Understand the scientific and technological landscape by maintaining a strong knowledge profile of scalable data platforms including backend, middleware, and web-technologies. Provide input on pros and cons on combinations of technologies.
• Develop new engineering algorithms, workflows, and frameworks for solving technical problems.
• Apply open-source and commercial tools and approaches to solve complex problems including information retrieval/extraction, machine learning/deep learning, and knowledge graph.
• Conduct software development and engineering to support project-specific applications of spatial computing and real-time data platforms.
