About The Role
A Fleet Field Mechanic maintains the company fleet vehicles, at field sites, in good running order to include repairs and preventative maintenance. Must travel on a regular basis to field sites to perform maintenance work.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain vehicles, which may include a company’s fleet of cars, trucks, heavy equipment, tractor/trailers, and other motor vehicles at field sites, traveling extensively to sites that may be a good distance from each other.
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups.
• Perform tests on specific parts and systems to ensure proper function.
• Identify mechanical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.
• Examine critical parts and systems using a standard checklist.
• Repair or replace malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic and diesel issues on units.
• Plan and establish timetable to complete repairs and maintenance. Notify Fleet Manager and others of repair schedule, prioritizing repairs as needed to meet operational requirements.
• Order parts as needed for repairs.
• Visit job sites on short notice to inspect vehicles, perform preventative maintenance, and repairs.
• Test drives vehicle to confirm safe and proper operation.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Key Qualifications
• An ideal candidate will have a High School diploma or GED.
• Must have a valid CDL
• Must have completed a Vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in auto repair or related field required and have three years of experience working as a mechanic with heavy equipment.
• Must live within a 45-minute commute from regular work site.
• Familiarity with personal computer and email preferred.
• Proven ability to demonstrate a high level of ethical behavior, integrity and trust.
• Knowledge of United Utility processes and procedures and utilization of developed tools to most effectively manage work is essential.
• Must actively demonstrate the United Utility company values and support the United Utility Ethics and Standards.
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a working knowledge of United Utility and client technical manuals and procedures; to pass United Utility and client specific training and qualifications as required; to work overtime, to include shift work, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Key Info
This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, twisting, reaching above shoulder level, working in tight spaces. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind for 10-hour workdays, with breaks. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to don the appropriate personal protective equipment while traversing an industrial environment requiring various degrees of protection. Will be required to travel on a regular basis to field sites to perform mechanical duties.
