Job Summary
Performs cardiopulmonary stress testing and physiological evaluation. May also analyze external cardiacs and assist in the implantable device management. Provides patient education related to heart healthy lifestyle choices.
Essential Functions
• Plans, develops and conducts graded exercise testing.
• Monitors patient’s activity, physiological response, and adherence to the exercise sessions.
• Provides specific exercise prescription to individuals based on age, culture and orthopedic considerations. May also analyze external monitor findings utilizing appropriate technology and processes report according to protocol; and assist in management of patients with implantable devices, including but not limited to triage, entering and tracking data, reviewing remotes, performing in-clinic interrogations, and scheduling patients as needed.
• Provides patient education talking points and/or individual and group counseling and teaching regarding principles of a healthy lifestyle. May create and update educational materials.
• Assists with new employee orientation within department.
• Communicates and collaborates with other members of the health care team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
• Participates in research projects and on committees/task forces as member, consultant and/or chair.
• May flex to the medical program or surgical program as needed.
Qualifications
• Required Bachelor’s Degree Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Health Science or related field, Masters Degree preferred
• Skills, knowledge, abilities typically gained through less than 2 years of relevant experience in the following areas: conducting graded exercise testing, knowledge of cardiovascular physiology, risk factor identification/modification; basic electrocardiogram (EKG) knowledge or completion of an internship in Cardiac Rehab Required
• CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA American Heart Association Preventive Cardiology and Rehab, Cardiovascular Imaging, Congenital Heart Center, and Implantable Cardiac Device Clinic 90 Days required Or
• CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) – ARC American Red Cross Preventive Cardiology and Rehab, Cardiovascular Imaging, Congenital Heart Center and Implantable Cardiac Device Clinic 90 Days required
• CRT-Clinical Exercise Physiologist, Certified (CEP) – ACSM American College of Sports Medicine Preventive Cardiology and Rehab, Cardiovascular Imaging, Implantable Cardiac Device Clinic and Congenital Heart Center preferred
