The Entomological Society of America (ESA) is a nonprofit organization that serves the scientific and professional needs of entomologists and scientists in related disciplines throughout the world. The Equity and Grants Program Manager is responsible for supporting, coordinating, and managing federally- and privately-funded programs of the Society, most of which are currently focused on creating and supporting an equitable workforce in the science of entomology. A key part of the job is to work with others on staff and in volunteer leadership to envision programming which aligns with key Societal priorities and then manage all aspects of securing funding for those programs, through the procurement of grants, cooperative agreements, and related funding mechanisms. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• DEI
• Assist with the planning and execution of inclusion of DEI programs, including webinars,
mentorship programs, and Awards and Honors?
• Partner with Director of Equity and Grants to coordinate ongoing D&I Committee
Meetings?
• Work with internal communications team to develop a voice and communication strategy
for stakeholders who are underrepresented in STEM and entomology?
• Track DEI metrics?
• Assist with the design and implementation of intentional educational programming to
raise awareness and competency of stakeholders?
• Maintain DEI webpage?
• Grants
• Research various types of grants available and the criteria to qualify for each?
• Compile necessary information for the application process through collaboration with other employees, database research, and other fact-finding actions and meetings?
• Regularly develop and submit grant proposals in collaboration with the Director of Equity and Grants and other staff
• Coordinate the submission of grant applications according to application requirements?
• Monitor and evaluate grant funded programs and projects??
• Develop and maintain master files on grants and paperwork connected to programs funded by grants
• Develop grant-related programs as assigned?
• Track grant-related expenses
• Volunteer and Society Support
• Serve as staff liaison to volunteer committees
• Support Annual and Branch Meetings
• Contribute to the functioning of the Society to ensure ESA’s Core Values (Member and customer service, Collaboration, Inclusiveness, Willingness to experiment and learn, and Accountability) are met
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred. Association experience a plus.
• Ability to envision, develop, draft, and complete accurate and timely grant submissions, especially those to be submitted to National Science Foundation, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, United States Department of Agriculture, and private funders that support scientific endeavors
• Demonstrated desire and ability to create diverse, inclusive, and equitable professional or academic communities??
• Strong project management skills, including organization and attention to detail?
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; a knack for simplifying complex concepts and telling the greater story.?
• Curiosity and interest in learning, about the Society, the science, and the broader entomological community
• Thorough understanding of federal funding sources and the ability to locate and seek potential sources for funding?
• Thorough understanding of grant writing, funding policies, and relevant procedures.?
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software???
• Ability to self-manage multiple time commitments and comfortably meet deadlines?
• Ability to interpret financial data and prepare budgets and financial grant reports?
• Certification from a recognized grant writing association such as American Grant Writers’ Association or Grant Professionals Association is preferred
• 25% percent work-related travel?
• Experience with Grants.gov, Reasearch.gov, login.gov, CDC.sharepoint

• The salary for this position is currently benchmarked at between $70,000 – $90,000 depending on the candidate. In addition, we offer an excellent benefits package including health and dental insurance; life insurance; long-term disability; a retirement plan that matches up to 7 percent of annual salary after your first year; free parking; 10 paid holidays; 13 days of vacation the first year; 13 sick days, and flexible work schedules.
