Reporting to the Chief Communications & Marketing Officer, the Director of Membership Development & Engagement is responsible for leading the expansion and enhancement of our membership community. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in driving membership growth, assessing membership value, and fostering membership engagement within a large and complex membership environment. This position works closely with the Membership Operations team with responsibility for the management of the membership operational infrastructure and technology functions. The Director of Membership Development & Engagement will work collaboratively throughout the Academy to regularly monitor and research member needs, ensure quality and effective member communications, monitor acquisition, engagement and retention levels. This WORK FROM HOME position has core responsibility for the following programs in support of membership development, satisfaction, engagement, and retention:
• Strategic input, communications and messaging in support of the annual membership retention program.
• Membership acquisition campaigns
• Membership program budgets
This position may manage external consultants providing such services as creative and market research in support of membership development and engagement.
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, nonprofit management, business administration, or other relevant association discipline.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in a management role either in-house, with an agency or in an association.
• Demonstrated development experience with a membership or audience development role.
• Prior experience or familiarity working with segmented marketing environments.
• Prior experience, knowledge, credentials, or other experience in diversity, inclusion, and cultural competency.
KEY ATTRIBUTES
• Significant level of developing, tracking and monitoring financial performance across membership programs. Will interface with Corporate Relations and Finance teams and other departments to provide regular updates on membership financial performance and make recommendations for priority recalibration in support of achieving program goals.
• Strong member/customer service orientation with the ability to apply creative problem-solving, innovative thinking, and communicate diplomatically with internal and external colleagues, customers, participants, and consultants.
• Knowledge of membership and marketing tech stacks and services in support of achieving membership goals and objectives.
• Thorough knowledge of AMS databases, preferably NetForum, Microsoft Office Suite/Teams are a plus.
