Position Overview
The Information Technology Director provides leadership in identifying, assessing, and managing technology needs that support the District’s vision and mission. The Information Technology Director directs, coordinates, supervises, facilitates, or performs all tasks and elements needed to effect comprehensive integration of appropriate technology into every aspect of operations. The Information Technology Director manages and directs the District’s information technology (IT) operations, ensuring the department provides efficient and effective technical support service.
Essential Job Functions
• Contributes to the infusion of educational technology into classrooms, libraries/media centers, and District offices by providing highly motivated, full-time, professional leadership in all areas of technology planning and technology resource management.
• Manages and directs staff in support of all technology applications to help the district meet the goals of the strategic plan
• Develops short-term and long-term goals that support the philosophy and policies of the Superintendent
• Supervises or coordinates the skills development of all employees in the operation of technology
• Builds awareness among employees of available resources and the role of technology in the instructional process
• Evaluate and implement new systems and infrastructure
• Schedules periodic security audits, along with helping to develop, implement, communicate, and maintain cyber security policies and procedures for the district.
• Coordinates development, refinement, and execution of the District technology plans, involving all stakeholders and governance committees
• Collaborates with the Superintendent and District Leadership Team to make informed decisions
• Leads District initiatives, collaborating across departments and functional areas that support the adoption and implementation of technology in all aspects of school business
• Ensures the District’s internal technological processes and stakeholders’ services comply with community expectations and applicable laws and regulations for privacy, security, and social responsibility
• Creates and supports cross-functional teams for needs assessment, decision-making, technology support, professional development, and other aspects of the District technology program
• Collaborates with principals and department heads to identify and implement innovative solutions to continuously improve all processes
• Provides leadership in all aspects of technology for the school district
• Exercises discretion when making recommendations concerning the appointment, retention, promotion, and assignment of all department personnel
• Responsible for the evaluation of all department staff
• Participates in professional networks
• Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Ability to oversee, plan, and implement significant programs and services for the organization
• Ability to oversee work that involves the use of complex technical, scientific, or mathematical concepts that increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization
• Ability to determine the appropriate level of resources to meet the organization’s needs
• Ability to respond to members of the community or internal peers within the organization
• Ability to maintain accountability for inventory/property management
• Ability to make recommendations that impact the budget and manage the budget within the assigned department/division
• Ability to determine the allocation of budget among departments/divisions
• Ability to use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems
• Ability to use computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes
• Ability to supervise employees developing, installing, or repairing technology systems
• Ability to establish policies for usage, acquiring, and /or maintaining technology systems
• Ability to create plans for and guide implementation of new technology systems
Education and Experience:
• Master’s Degree from an accredited institution
• Educational Leadership certification
• Five (5) years of related experience
• Qualifications may vary from the above requirements to such a degree as the Superintendent and Board determine is necessary and appropriate to ensure properly qualified personnel in each specialized assignment
Working Conditions:
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office equipment to type letters, reports, and other materials; bending and hearing to answer the telephone; speaking to exchange information. And sitting and operating a keyboard to enter data into a computer for extended periods of time
• Physical demands include lifting up to 15 pounds, sitting, standing, walking, bending at the waist, pushing, stooping, kneeling, twisting, turning, reaching, and stretching, as well as using ladders.
• Working in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands
