JOB MISSION
New Balance is seeking a DataOps engineer in the Global BI, Data & Analytics team. As a DataOps Engineer, you will play a significant role in the smooth operations of our global data platform by designing, implementing, and operating processes and tools that enable data innovation, increase trust in the data and speed up the development cycle. You will work collaboratively with data engineers, analysts, and cross functional teams to help deliver quality data products.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop, manage, and automate the agile DataOps process for the design, processing, and maintenance and delivery of data in our heterogeneous and distributed architecture.
• Identify and develop the data operational processes to optimize, monitor and improve data quality and outcome for the data engineering, analytics and data science users and producers of data.
• Improve and drive change into our SDLC process across the whole data environment. Improve development speed and safety by implementing CI/CD workflows for code, data, and infrastructure.
• Evaluate database / schema change management tools. Integrate such tools in our development and deployment processes.
• Design and implement a unified framework to gather logging and trace information from our data and reporting processes to monitor, alert and report on them.
• Integrate DataOps metadata into our Data Catalog and Data Quality tools.
• Create, manage, and report on data quality, trustability, and observability metrics to inform the team and management on our operations and data KPIs. Help drive improvements to those metrics.
• Be a steward of our data processes and help create and maintain documentation and conduct trainings inside and outside the team to foster good data operations and practices.
• Influence test driven development and provide a framework for automated testing based on reusable environments.
• Help implement automated data governance policies wherever the data is accessed (Databricks, Snowflake, Spotfire, PowerBI, …). Document and version control those policies and grants.
• Take part in general Snowflake and Databricks administration and automate administrative tasks.
• Contribute to the discussions on evaluating build vs buy and be involved with third-party vendors.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science with focus on data engineering preferable.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a Data Operations role.
• Minimum 5+ years of experience in data engineering/Dev Ops or related field in data services.
• Minimum 3-4 years of experience in a cloud environment, Azure preferred.
• Fluency with a scripting or programming language, Python preferred, as well as SQL.
• Experience with the operations of cloud databases, orchestration tools and processing engines. Azure Data Factory, Databricks (PySpark) and Snowflake preferred.
• Familiarity with both batch and streaming data operations.
• Experience with GitHub, including GitHub Actions.
• Experience with a data catalog and data governance tool such as Alation.
• Familiarity with data quality, data testing or DataOps tools.
• Proactive and collaborative mindset in implementing tooling and proper DataOps practices to achieve the team’s and the business’ goals.
• Possess intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn new skills and technologies.

Flexible Work Schedule
For decades we have fostered a unique culture founded on our values with a particular focus on in-person teamwork and collaboration. Our North American hybrid model encourages rich in-person experiences, showcasing our commitment to teamwork and connection, while maintaining flexibility for associates. New Balance Associates currently work in office three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Our offices are fully open, and amenities are available across our North American office locations. To continue our focus on hybrid work we have introduced “Work from Anywhere” (WFA) for four weeks per calendar year. This model will help us enhance our culture while continuing to maintain elements of flexibility.
