Overview
The Centralized Scheduler works with patients, physicians, office staff, and clinicians to obtain complete demographic information and accurately schedule patients for procedures. Effectively communicates scheduling information to internal and external customers, while maintaining a focus on customer service and patient confidentiality.
Responsibilities
• Responsible for efficient, expedient, and accurate procedure scheduling. Effectively communicates with patients, families, healthcare team members and physicians both in person and via telephone.
• Requests an accurate clinical history as necessary for the exam. Provides instructions, dietary restrictions and exam specific preparations to the individual scheduling the procedure.
• Reviews and evaluates scheduled appointments for completeness and type of test ordered. Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines and hospital policy. Assists with Pre-Registration process by obtaining demographic information and insurance payer information from the individual scheduling the procedure.
• Maintains an awareness of the Delinquent Physician list and does not schedule invasive procedures for physicians on this list.
• Receives physician orders and schedules procedures by both telephone and electronic media. Obtains provisional diagnosis and patient history to substantiate the requested procedure.
• Contacts “No Shows” on a weekly basis to reschedule their procedures.
• Communicates scheduling concerns or problems to Centralized Scheduling Lead.
• All other duties as assigned by department.
Qualifications
Education / Training
• High School Diploma/Equivalent
Min Experience
• 0 – 1 year Medical Office, Call Center, Scheduling
Preferences:
1-year hospital, medical, or physician office experience.
Knowledge of insurance eligibility and requirements.
