Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

Support Staff to assist with direct patient care within the Emergency Department in accordance with departmental & hospital policies and procedures.

Essential Duties:

This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
• Responds to requests for patient care tech level services from areas within the emergency department in a timely and safe manner.
• Completes documentation and records according to department policy.
• Ensures emergency preparedness equipment is ready for response at all times.
• Assists with codes and critical care patients within the emergency department at the patient care tech level, including interdepartmental transport and monitoring.
• The patient care tech performs assigned duties in the emergency department under the supervision of Nursing with documentation of proper training and skills evaluation.
• Assists charge nurse and/or triage nurse in assessing, prioritizing, and maintaining patient flow and assists in reassessing patient waiting to be seen.
• Assists with patient care coordination and assists with arranging patient transfers
• Responsibilities include supply restocking
• Participates in activities which contribute to professional growth and development
• Provides basic patient care within scope of practice
• Assists with IV starts, EKG testing, & Foley catheter placement after completing appropriate training
• Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required • BLS

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

• Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills. • Proficiency in acute care setting/Emergency care. • Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.
