Job Summary
The mission of this role is to create and cultivate a culture of discipleship that enables current and future students to engage in their faith, experience God, and extend service to others in the name of Jesus Christ during their time at Bethel. Immersion in this discipleship culture at Bethel, will propel students into a life-long journey of following Jesus and studying scripture well beyond their years on campus.
The Campus Pastor will serve as an integral part of the leadership team of Campus Ministries at Bethel University. This role will have ownership of student discipleship and formation, content and curriculum development, preaching and teaching, and serve as part of the chapel leadership team. This role will collaborate in pastoral care with the Campus Ministries team.
Responsibilities
Student Discipleship and Formation
Leadership of Bethel Community Groups:
• Collaborate with the chapel leadership team to create curriculum for community groups that is unified with our overall Campus Ministries teaching vision.
• Develop and coach community group leaders in group facilitation, student discipleship, studying scripture, practicing the ways of Jesus, and more.
• Oversee and support the logistics of weekly community groups.
Leadership of the Bethel SHIFT Program:
• Collaborate with the chapel leadership team to create curriculum for the SHIFT Program that is unified with our overall Campus Ministries teaching vision.
• Oversee the SHIFT leader hiring and training process.
• Develop and coach SHIFT leaders in group facilitation, student discipleship, studying scripture, practicing the ways of Jesus, and more.
• Student Discipleship and Formation
Leadership of Real Talk:
• Partner with student-led Real Talk to coach and disciple students with a passion to communicate their testimonies.
• Create a safe space for students to share and experience testimony.
Content and Curriculum Development
• Study, develop and write curriculum for community groups, SHIFT and other discipleship programs as necessary.
• Assist the Lead Campus Pastor in chapel message and development.
• Ensure synergy between chapel and all formation curriculum.
Chapel Leadership Team
• Collaborate with the Lead Campus Pastor, Worship Pastor and Communications.
• Manager on series development, worship, stage plots, creative arts and experiential learning for all chapel services.
• Participate in weekly feedback and critique of chapel services.
Preaching and Teaching
• Prepare and deliver approximately one chapel message each month.
• Collaborate with the Lead Campus Pastor on teaching series development.
Pastoral Care
• Provide pastoral care to the Bethel community as needed.
• Other duties assigned.
Required Skills
• An evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the institution’s mission.
• Prior experience in ministry work with young adults in a church or college campus setting.
• Experience working with, and demonstrated knowledge of, Christian spiritual formation principles and practices.
• A commitment to racial reconciliation and sensitivity to the various needs that go along with pastoring a multiethnic community.
• Ability to work efficiently and effectively; sometimes carrying multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to lead a team of student workers toward shared goals, develop skills, keep team members accountable, maintain unity, and resolve conflict.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to represent the mission of the Campus Ministries Office.
• Ability to maintain calm and bring peace in stressful situations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to self-start, to keep information confidential and to work well in a team environment.
Experience
Required:
• 2+ years of working in Church, campus, or student ministry or a related field.
Education
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree.
Preferred:
• Masters in theology or ministry degree program.
Additional Information
• Must be able to work in varying conditions – including long periods of sitting but also be able to interact with students in a variety of settings.
• This is a 1.00 FTE, 12 months per year job. May require weekends and evenings.
