Normal Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm; some evenings/weekends as needed.
Job Summary: The Behavioral Health Services Specialist supports behavioral and social health programs. Supports daily program functions and activities. Provides psychotherapy services. Assists with program development and implementation, including design of treatment plans and related documentation models.
Additional Department Summary: Provides individual and family therapy to clients. Provides psychotherapy services, including assessment and mental health consultation, crisis intervention. family support, patient education, referrals, and other relevant clinical services. Assists with growth, development, and implementation of behavioral and social health services programs.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Associate Licensed Counselor (ALC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or other behavioral health-related independent licensure in the State of Alabama in good standing.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Experience with evidence-based interventions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and/or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Experience using an electronic health record system in a previous learning or employed role.
Must have valid U.S. driver’s license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
Skills and Knowledge: Strong organizational and program support skills with knowledge in the areas of behavioral health and social services. Demonstrated skills in clinical-decision-making. Ability to exercise discretion, diplomacy, and tact in patient/staff interactions; willingness to learn and consistently deliver patient-centered high-quality customer-friendly service. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information and follow HIPAA and/or FERPA regulations at all times. Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic setting. Ability to cope with stressful conditions. Ability to demonstrate tact, versatility, and adaptability. Ability to demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation and directional initiative. Efficient and accurate computer and data entry skills. Working knowledge of standard office software applications, including Microsoft Office and basic data platforms. Ability to build online presentations, create and manage spreadsheets, databases, and other tools to tracking progress toward program goals. Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making. Skill in organizing work to achieve department goals and objectives. Ability to work a flexible schedule.
Preferred Qualifications: Fluency in Spanish and English.
