Franklin International, a leading manufacturer of adhesives, coatings, and sealants is currently seeking an Associate Product Development Chemist/Technologist in our Core Technology Department. This position is responsible for supporting the lab’s efforts to develop new products and technologies as well as to improve current adhesive technologies by performing a variety of chemist and laboratory job duties.

Essential Functions
The primary responsibilities of the incumbent to this position will be to actively investigate new technologies aimed at developing new products that would meet Franklin’s market demand as well as would create new market opportunities. Typical tasks in this position will include, but are not limited to, the following-
• Synthesizes known polymers using current formula and procedure;
• Designs and synthesizes new polymers;
• Develops new methods and protocols for both new and existing characterization technologies that best represent the intended application with help from others;;
• Keeps up-to-date on best practices for lab technology and shares with others;
• Evaluates various new and known polymers using current test methods;
• Formulates polymer using existing formulation techniques or by developing new formulation strategies;
• Performs testing and collects data on adhesive formulae and polymers;
• Maintains organized electronic lab notebook with a view to future use of data for novel experiments and analysis by other scientists;
• Analyzes data and decides course of action in conjunction with others;
• Evaluates new additives and raw materials to develop new products or to improve performance of existing products;
• Develops new processes for known polymer manufacturing to improve efficiency;
• Manufactures polymers in pilot scale with help from others;
• Works with lab technicians and engineers to operate and improve upon pilot-scale reactor facility;
• Contributes in significant problem-solving initiatives;
• Leads mid-level problem resolution;
• Works closely with a team or group;
• Provides verbal or written updates to supervisor and other team members on regular basis;
• Advises on technical points to supervisor as well as other team members;
• Plans and prioritizes a logical sequence of testing, product formulation and lab tasks, based on information from supervisors. Revises plans as needed for change and customer requirements;
• Responsible for follow-up on assigned projects;
• Travels to visit and consult with customers, if needed;
• Observe safety and environmental guidelines while handling products, raw materials and wastes.
• Work closely with chemists, technicians and/or interns, and cross-functional teams to achieve growth targets
Knowledge And Skills
• BS with 3 yrs experience, or BS Chemistry with research experience.
