Job Description
• Lead development and management of strategic infrastructure that provides operational support to the University’s Greater China Scholars Program international faculty, staff, and visiting scholars, including expanding outreach initiatives, creating resources and processes related to onboarding, and developing and communicating through both written and verbal Mandarin Chinese effective cultural, intellectual, and personal engagement opportunities in the broader community, while working collaboratively with partners to support delegations, visits, and seminars that enhance engagement of the University’s international faculty and visiting scholars;
• Lead development and implementation of programs and services for all international students and scholars that enhance positive engagement in the academy and community, create a welcoming and supportive campus environment, facilitate successful onboarding to the Notre Dame experience and facilitate understanding, adjustment, and contributions to U.S, Midwest, and institutional culture and educational systems, as well as lead NDI / ISSA assessment projects of student and scholar engagement; support campus wide initiatives to gauge and respond to critique of student/scholar experience;
• Administer Greater China Scholars Program and successfully expand its best practices by (A) implementing program components in other regions through proactive liaising with key partners and (B) developing innovative programs to assist all international students in meeting academic, personal, professional and career goals, while utilizing Mandarin Chinese to engage students, families, and Asia based donors, and coordinate with key partners, such as the Advisory Committee, Provost’s Office, First Year of Studies, Undergraduate Admissions, University Relations, and BGG , as well as develop academic, internship and service opportunities for GCS scholars, organize the annual GCS selection event, assist in managing the program’s budget, finances, and strategic development, and manage collaboration with campus partners on development and assessment of retention strategies for international students, particularly vulnerable populations;
• Manage outreach to and collaboration with partners to effectively identify the needs of international students, support the delivery of intercultural programming, and engage faculty, staff, and domestic students in initiatives that encourage their sensitivity to cultural differences and equip them to effectively engage and respect a diverse range of student experiences and contributions;
• Lead development and management of family engagement data and programming that engages families in their student’s Notre Dame life cycle, with special emphasis on pre-arrival, orientation, and commencement and in collaboration with campus partners, global network, and alumni;
• Enhance the University’s reputation in Asia by supporting global education initiatives with partners in Asia that create frameworks for connection to other regions of the world and engaging benefactors and stewardship;
• Carry-out other duties as assigned, including communications planning, storytelling, training management, and financial management of programming and GCS stewardship;
Minimum Qualifications
A Master’s Degree in Economics, Finance, International Higher Education, or International Marketing is required (a Foreign Educational Equivalent is acceptable).
Also required is 36 months of experience as an Assistant Director for Student Development, Assistant Director of Institutional Research and Programs, or Education Coordinator.
Experience must include 12 months of working responsibilities involving the development of strategic partnerships involving U.S. and China higher educational institutions, government agencies, foundations, and businesses in creating and advancing educational programs and collaborations.
Native or near-native fluency in both written and verbal Mandarin Chinese is required in order to effectively communicate with and engage Greater China Scholars Program students, families, and Asian-based donors who primarily communicate in Mandarin Chinese.
