The Graduate Center (GC) benefits from highly ambitious and diverse students and alumni-who in turn teach hundreds of thousands of undergraduates every year. Through its public programs, the Graduate Center enhances New York City’s intellectual and cultural life.
The PhD/MA Program in Philosophy at the Graduate Center consists of approximately 120 students at various stages of completing the requirements toward their Ph.D. and M.A. degrees. The student body is comprised of a very diverse multi-cultural population, including domestic and international students, Philosophy students also engage in interdisciplinary work with scholars in other Programs at the GC, including Computer Science,
Linguistics, Political Science, Psychology, and MALS. There are about 41 members of the doctoral faculty who serve as prospectus and dissertation advisors and as instructors of courses that are mainly taught at the Graduate Center. Each semester there are between 14 to 16 courses offered.
The Assistant Program Officer serves as a resource person for applicants, students, and faculty regardingtheadministrative procedures and policies of the Ph.D./M.A. Program in Philosophy. The APO reports to the ExecutiveOfficer(EO) and assists in the managing the administrative aspects of the Philosophy Program.
All full-time and part-time CUNY staff are expected to work in-person at their campus office 70% of their work time. For full-time staff, this is equivalent to 7 out of 10 days of in-person work in a two-week period (e.g., 7 days in-person, 3 days remote). This hybrid work schedule is subject to change.
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Assists and provides information to students and faculty; acts as liaison for students and faculty with administrative offices.
• Assists in reviewing student progress in fulfilling requirements for both the Ph.D. and M.A.degrees.
• Assists internal/external stakeholders in processing student-related activities such as student evaluations, registration, course schedules, leave of absence, withdrawal, dissertation defense, etc.
• Collects and maintains statistical data on all phases of program activities such as admissions, graduation, placement, attrition, faculty lists and research interests, and program colloquia and prepares periodicreports for various office at the Graduate Center.
• Supervises the College Assistant and work-study students.
• Assists in placing students in part-time teachingpositions.
• Maintains the program’s website content, including courseupdates.
• Assists Visiting Scholars; processes their applications with the Provost Office and familiarizes them withthe college’s and program’s procedures and resources.
• Assists in the development of grant proposals on the part of the faculty.
• Organizes elections of student and faculty representatives to various Philosophy ProgramCommittees.
• Maintains budget records for all expenses incurred by the program; maintains program files and student records; updates student and faculty mailing and email lists and telephone numbers.
• Schedules meetings and colloquia, including room reservations; assists with class schedules and roomassignments.
• Performs other duties as assigned which are reasonably within the scope of this job classification.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree required.Candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat, and be familiar with online administrative platforms. Previous experience as an Assistant Program Officer or work in a similar capacity is highly desired.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be offered for this position

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$44,411-$77,430. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
