About The Healdsburg School
The Healdsburg School (THS) offers families an outstanding educational experience for children in the grades of Transitional Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. Our dynamic learning environment ensures that children experience our school as a place where they are known and learning is personalized. An important measure of an education is a student’s ability and willingness to learn, grow, create and problem solve outside of traditional school structures. In order to support this goal, The Healdsburg School strives to take a step back and give students choice about where and how to spend their time as well as opportunities to pursue interests and explore new tools, materials and ideas. With that in mind, THS is seeking an educator to develop and instruct dynamic elective classes focused on the applied sciences. Beyond that, the ideal candidate will collaborate with TK-8 faculty in support of the curriculum, to expand engineering, computer science and integrated project-based academic offerings.
Immediate Responsibilities:
• Develop and instruct two fall elective classes that focus on engineering, computer science, and design thinking
• Provide leadership in the development of broader programming that embraces engineering, computer science, and design thinking.
• Equip and maintain shared lab space in order to enable students in exploring their interests and fostering their design thinking skills
As the position and program advance:
• Design and support teachers in designing engaging and exciting offerings to enhance current IB Units of Inquiry in grades TK-5.
• Create and implement a scope and sequence for a TK-8 program that focuses on engineering, computer science and design.
• Promote effective instructional practices and communications that support high levels of instruction through in-house professional development with fellow TK-8 teachers.
• Work with the Arts Department and other teachers in representing hands-on projects at the Middle School Performing Arts Elective Showcase.
• Work collaboratively with administration, grade-level teachers, specialists, and advisors.
• Create a positive learning environment, enabling students to thrive.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in a science, math, tech or applied science related field that required significant coursework in practical applications, advanced degree preferred.
• Experience in teaching Science, Engineering, Technology, Tech Arts, and/or Math programs at the TK-8 level.
• Experience with hands-on, project-based learning in a TK-8 environment.
• Understanding of appropriate developmental levels for each age.
• Experience in an interdisciplinary environment with an emphasis on group collaboration.
• Experience in teaching problem-solving skills in addition to traditional core content.
• Ability to work with students in large and small group settings using multiple teaching methods to reach a broad range of students.
• Commitment to issues of diversity, leadership, inclusion, and equity.
• A passion for working with young people.
• A desire to collaborate in a dynamic community of teachers and administrators.
• Excellent interpersonal, writing, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in working with grades TK-12 in an academic setting.
• Experience in innovative course design, planning, implementation, and assessment
• Experience with a variety of software and hardware applications.
• Experience in starting, creating, and maintaining a STEAM lab environment.
Compensation and Benefits:
The Healdsburg School uses a competitive salary scale, which takes into account experience, education, and skill level. The range for this position is $66,000 – $95,000, with full benefits offered for full-time employees. This position is flexible to best meet the needs of candidate and/or program outcomes and can be offered on a part-time or full-time basis.
