Department Summary
The Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences is an academic unit within the College of Letters and Science consisting of academic researchers, scientists and faculty, staff, postdocs, undergrads and graduates across all majors. Our department is located in the Geology Building and Slichter Hall, occupying multiple laboratories and prototyping facilities to support a variety of research in Earth and space systems.
Position Summary
The Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences is an academic unit within the College of Letters and Science with an exciting and expansive research program. The department is looking for a Application Programmer to fulfill a vital position in the department.
Salary & Compensation

Qualifications
• Working knowledge for Python programing. (Required)
• Knowledge of the Linux and PC/Windows operating systems. (Required)
• Learn to integrate new applications into existing web pages. (Required)
• Good written and oral communications skills. (Required)
• Learn to prioritize projects and to organize resources and efforts in order to meet investigator and project deadlines. (Required)
• Ability to plan, coordinate, and track the work of others to assist them in meeting project deadlines. (Required)
• Ability to work amidst frequent interruption and task re-prioritization. (Required)
• Learn to work with minimal supervision. (Required)
• Demonstrated knowledge of the NASA SPICE system for ancillary data storage, management, and manipulation. (Preferred)
• Basic understanding of NASA CDF file and UCLA flat file to build Python code to read and write these files. (Preferred)
• Basic knowledge of navigating directories and reading files on a UNIX Solaris operating system to understand what legacy software does to help developing new software for data processing. (Preferred)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
• Bachelor’s Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training (Required)
