JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Alumni Engagement, the Alumni Engagement Officer is responsible for creating, executing and evaluating engagement plans for alumni and friends of the university. In addition, they manage programming for the university’s signature alumni awards and events (e.g. Homecoming, Alumni Christmas Luncheon, St. Thomas Day), provide support for the Alumni Engagement Board and contribute to new engagement programs and special projects.
The Engagement Officer is responsible for expanding engagement with key individuals and alumni constituent groups who have the potential to make a significant impact for advancing the mission of the university and the success of its students. Working as part of a cross-functional Strategic Engagement Team within University Advancement (UA), they execute strategies that deepen and strengthen our network of engaged alumni in close collaboration with partners across UA and throughout campus. They represent the University Advancement team with all constituents and demonstrate a high degree of customer service, diplomacy, consistency and integrity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Local and National Alumni Engagement: Manage a portfolio of strategic alumni engagement programs
• Seek strategic and innovative ways to build alumni engagement in an effort to drive philanthropic and non-philanthropic impact for St. Thomas
• Contribute to developing cross-functional plans, programs and events to strengthen alumni engagement and connection; requires ability to work some evenings and travel, as needed
• In coordination with the appropriate partners, execute engagement strategies for key individuals and constituent groups
• Identify new initiatives to drive engagement, and curate engagement opportunities through UA
• Communicate results and impact of work; provide evaluations of initiatives and recommendations for new approaches to better drive results
• Assesses the efficacy of alumni engagement initiatives to guarantee alignment with the varied needs of our diverse stakeholders
• Alumni Recognition: Develop and manage opportunities for meaningful alumni recognition through the St. Thomas Day awards program and other recognition opportunities
• Oversee a cross-functional group of campus partners to select St. Thomas Day award winners
• Identify other opportunities to recognize alumni engagement and achievements
• Alumni Advisory Board: Support Director of Alumni Engagement in Alumni Board-related activity
• Build Board membership pipeline through targeted recruitment of high-potential alumni
• Provide support with meetings and the work of related committees, task forces, or working groups
• Empower Board members to engage in meaningful ways with the university
• Signature Events Programming:
• Act as program lead for signature alumni events (e.g., Alumni Christmas Luncheon and 50-year reunion); identify and engage speakers for key speaking opportunities such as the Alumni Christmas Luncheon and 50-year reunion
• Collaborate with UA Strategic Engagement team and campus partners to provide input on event strategy and logistics
• Data collection and operations:
• Capture and report on alumni engagement data in accordance with national alumni engagement metrics; document processes and procedures to ensure consistent data capture
• Maintain accurate and relevant records within the database
• Create tracking and measurement systems to ensure progress against strategic engagement goals
• Document policies and processes to ensure consistency of offerings and clear analysis of metrics
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
• Three years of experience in:
• Alumni Relations
• Donor Relations
• Volunteer Engagement
• Community Relations
• Or a Relationship-Driven Role
• This position will engage in local travel and therefore requires a valid driver’s license; a driving check will be conducted as a condition of employment.
An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable skills and knowledge have been acquired may be substituted.
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of higher education and familiarity with alumni engagement
