Our Entertainment and Media practice group is seeking a transactional advertising law associate with 4-6 years of experience to join our Chicago office. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in advertising and marketing law, trademark, copyright, and right of publicity laws, review and negotiation of emerging technology, privacy, and other advertising-adjacent agreements and excellent writing and research skills. This position offers a tremendous opportunity to engage in high-level transactions with a diverse roster of high-profile clients.
Key Responsibilities Will Include
• Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various transactional agreements within the advertising and marketing ecosystem, including agency-client creative services and media buying agreements, sponsorship and endorsement agreements, social media influencer agreements, and promotional terms and conditions, including for sweepstakes, contests and loyalty programs.
• Researching, analyzing, and providing strategic counsel to clients on compliance matters related to claim substantiation, advertising, marketing, promotions, and social media.
• Counseling clients in connection with advertising, trademark, and copyright disputes. Advising clients on data privacy and security compliance matters and handling related agreements.
• Conducting due diligence and research to support transactional and compliance matters, including analyzing contract provisions, identifying legal risks, and providing recommendations to clients.
• Managing client relationships and communicating effectively with clients to understand their goals and objectives and develop tailored legal strategies to achieve them.
Qualifications
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active bar membership in good standing in the State of Illinois or eligibility for admission via reciprocity.
• 4-6 years of experience as a transactional associate in a law firm setting, with significant experience in advertising, intellectual property, and/or data privacy.
• Strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• The drive and proficiency to hit the ground running on various transactions at the highest level.

Pay Range: $265,000 – $390,000. This represents the presently-anticipated low and high end of Reed Smith’s pay range for this position. Actual pay may vary based on various factors, including but not limited to location and experience.
