Inovalon is seeking a Principal Health Data Scientist with professional experience working with large-scale medical and pharmacy enrollment and claims data to support development and implementation of real-world health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) analyses. Key functions of the position include 1) extracting, preparing, and analyzing patient-level datasets and 2) generating summary output that quantify the patient journey and trends in healthcare treatment patterns, utilization, health equity, and cost. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Utilizes SQL to extract, integrate, and analyze patient-level datasets derived from Inovalon’s large-scale, proprietary database
• Creates and documents flexible data extraction algorithms, analytical routines, and statistical models for reuse with a diverse set of clients
• Performs descriptive and advanced statistical analyses using large patient and/or claims databases in support of data mining, predictive modeling, and health outcomes research projects. Can include use of SQL, SAS, R, Python, and/or STATA
• Lends technical expertise, as appropriate, to the development of protocols, technical specifications, statistical analysis plans, and summary reports
• Collaborates with cross-functional project teams to deliver meaningful, accurate insights to customers
Minimum Requirements:
• 8+ years of experience writing code using SQL and SAS to manipulate and analyze large government and/or commercial healthcare claims datasets
• Proficiency executing observational/outcomes research studies and custom analytic engagements using large administrative medical and pharmacy claims, EHR/EMR, and other data derived from public (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, VA) and private databases. Experience working with linked claims-EHR/EMR data is a plus.
• Experience building complex lines of treatment in oncology and/or immunology is a plus
• Ability to create clean and accurate summary output and delivery files (e.g., delimited, SAS, Excel)
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, mathematics, or statistics;
• Maintain compliance with Inovalon’s policies, procedures and mission statement;
• Adhere to all confidentiality and HIPAA requirements as outlined within Inovalon’s Operating Policies and Procedures in all ways and at all times with respect to any aspect of the data handled or services rendered in the undertaking of the position; and
• Fulfill those responsibilities and/or duties that may be reasonably provided by Inovalon for the purpose of achieving operational and financial success of the Employer.
Additional Skills and Competencies:
• Experience interpreting statistical output and analyses or aptitude to learn
• Experience working in R and/or Python environments or aptitude to learn
• Experience working with data visualization software (e.g., Tableau, Amazon QuickSight) or aptitude to learn
• Experience in predictive modeling and/or AI/machine learning theory and methods or aptitude to learn
• Demonstrated problem solving, analytical reasoning, and decision-making skills and strong commitment to meeting goals and deadlines
• Excellent teamwork skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
• Sedentary work (i.e. sitting for long periods of time);
• Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force;
• Frequently or constantly to lift, carry push, pull or otherwise move objects and repetitive motions;
• Subject to inside environmental conditions; and
• Travel for this position will include less than 5% locally usually for training purposes.
The actual base pay offered may vary depending on multiple factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity. At Inovalon, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
Base Compensation Range
$115,200—$160,000 USD
