Job summary:
The Software Engineer, Enabling Technologies R&D will be a key supporting role in the team on the forefront of digital technology for the orthopedic medical device industry. This role will support the Enabling Technology R&D team with all aspects of the product development process. The candidate for this role is a strong collaborator that takes the time to understand the project scope in order to drive product improvements and efficiently generate technical documentation.
In this role, you will lead and implement various Enabling Technology and Digital Surgery projects. Emphasis will be on delivering projects on-time, within budget in a compliant and reliable manner.
Key responsibilities:
• Upgrade the .NET framework from 4.7 to 8.0.
• Extend and enhance an existing complex software system.
• Build, update and enhance APIs and SQL Databases.
• Use standard methodologies for building Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) technologies under Design Control procedures.
• Translate requirements into application features and document architecture and design decisions.
• Design, develop, and debug software for sophisticated, multi-process systems.
• Implement client-side, server-side, and database software.
• Design and implement interfaces for data exchange with other systems.
• Build and monitor technical aspects of the project.
• Analyze and evaluate new technologies, recommending improvements to existing products.

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
Experience and Skills:
Required:
• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on software development experience.
• Proficiency in C# (.NET Framework, .NET Core, .NET 6+).
• Extensive application debugging/troubleshooting with Visual Studio.
• Familiarity with Microsoft SQL, Web API development, and UI development with WPF.
• Experience with cross-functional new product development teams.
• Effective communication skills for conveying critical design/project information to customers.
• Familiarity with high-quality software practices (test-driven development, documentation, software review processes, and cross-platform support) is a plus.
Preferred:
• Ability to work independently and understand existing code/systems with minimal ramp-up time.
• Agile development background.
• Experience with AWS or Azure Cloud.
• Software development experience for medical devices.
• Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript.
• Experience with Xamarin, Obj-C, or Swift for iOS development.
• Familiarity with FDA QSR/ISO9000 design control regulations.
• Experience in conceptualizing, designing, implementing, and testing small to medium engineering software applications.
• Experience with SaMD development.
• Documentation skills in a highly regulated industry.
• Knowledge of secure development practices and security testing.
• Entity Framework (EF6) code-first approach.
