Summary The Athletic Trainer will be responsible for providing preventative measures, acute care, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries to athletes on the team. This includes but is not limited to, managing potentially catastrophic, acute, and chronic athletic injuries within the scope of practice for athletic training, including rehabilitation and return-to-play decisions. This position is expected to collaborate with the Coaches, team physician, and/or the strength and conditioning coach, if necessary. Attendance at scheduled team practices and home and away games is required. This position will work cooperatively with athletes, coaches, and athletic department staff. The Trainer is also responsible for maintaining the standards of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).
Duties
• Provide athletic training services for the athletic department, including but not limited to: prevention, recognition, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, immediate care, treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of athletic injuries.
• Coordinate with Team Physician (s) to provide athletic training coverage, including attendance at scheduled team practices and home and away games as necessary.
• Provides game and practice coverage, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Collaborate with physicians and other health professionals to deliver appropriate care to athletes.
• Supervise daily operations and maintenance of the athletic training facilities.
• Assist with administrative duties as assigned.
• Maintain accurate medical records on all injuries, treatment, rehabilitation, and physician referrals.
• Coordinate athletic injury insurance claims.
• As needed, serve as a liaison for athletes between physicians, coaches, athletes, parents, and other health care providers.
• Developing and fostering a positive relationship with the coaching staff and athletes.
• Uphold confidentiality for athletes and their well-being.
• Apply a team approach with the Coaches to ensure that athletes participate only when physically able and that physician instructions are understood and followed.
• Comply with all policies regarding health care delivery as indicated by the OHL’s regulations.
• Collect and maintain the privacy of all (new and returning) athletes’ current contact, emergency contact, health insurance, consent, and health-status waivers.
• Provide immediate care of athletic injuries and refer athletes to emergency medical facilities when necessary.
• Educate athletes on health-related issues, including nutrition and substance abuse.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
• Manage inventory and maintenance of athletic training facilities
• Maintaining current electronic medical records, treatment plans, and educational programs.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Experience collaborating with strength and conditioning coaches for exercise prescription
• and rehabilitation needs are preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
Required (Professional) Credentials
• Bachelor’s Degree, master’s degree preferred, in Athletic Training or related fields, and three years of experience as a certified athletic trainer is required
• Must be licensed or eligible for licensing in the state of Michigan as an Athletic Trainer.
• NATA certification and maintenance of certification by NATA is required.
• CPR, AED, & First Aid Certification.
