Job Summary:
The Anderson Lab within the UW-Madison Center for Genomic Science Innovation (CGSI) and the Department of Medical Genetics seeks an ambitious and highly motivated Data Infrastructure Technologist III to support research activities. The lab is housed within the CGSI, which serves as a vibrant and collegial environment for inclusive and collaborative science. The Center and the University are located in Madison, WI, which is frequently voted among the best places to live.
The position described here is to oversee data management and infrastructure assemblage for a Tribal Data Repository (TDR) as part of a large team composed of three other research institutions. This individual will oversee construction of both a primary storage space off-site and a secondary storage site at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for this newly established TDR by the National Institutes of Health to manage all Tribal data linked to COVID through the Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx) program. More specifically, this person will work with a collaborating group to build a data storage system and access site with the primary TDR site and ensure data replication at the secondary site. Job responsibilities include installation of a platform at the primary site, building out data transfer agreements, validating data replication with the primary site, overseeing transfer operations to the secondary storage site, and data harmonization activities.
Responsibilities:
Delivers comprehensive and strategically significant enterprise data center infrastructure support including the development, coordination, and management of physical capacity systems, security systems, networking, operational workflow, and stakeholder relationships across multiple institutional domains. Anticipates issues, devises resolution methodology, and provides long term and non-routine assistance to ensure subsystems and infrastructure function together and business needs are met. Provides guidance to leadership on technology strategies and critical technology issues.
• 15% Integrates, designs, reviews, troubleshoots, monitors, and resolves highly complex, strategically significant, and innovative enterprise-wide supported services, facilities equipment, and data center networking problems
• 10% Designs the physical infrastructure and network connectivity for multiple sites including owned, leased, and collocation data center facilities
• 10% Plans and directs staff implementation of complex enterprise technical projects
• 10% Streamlines methods and procedures for equipment deployment and implementation
• 15% Monitors and coordinates security access, policy, and procedure within the data centers
• 5% Researches, consults, prototypes, and develops new and advanced standards-based technology initiatives and problem resolution across multiple systems
• 15% Evaluates project progress, quality, and risks according to best practices and established policies and procedures
• 10% Serves as an expert point of contact to external stakeholders, leadership, vendors, peer institutions, and IT partners regarding high-level data center facilities on-boarding. Identifies needs, provides solution options and strategic direction, and communicates issue updates and resolutions
• 10% Mentors and train junior employees

Required:
The applicants should have experience in data management systems and be able to build out data structure systems. The ability to assist in installation of software platforms will be of benefit. Experience with transfer operations through Globus compute systems or something similar will be necessary for data transfer oversight. Be proficient in at least one standard programming language for any development requirements. This individual will need to be self motivated to establish the system at Wisconsin and be able to work as part of a larger team.
Preferred:
Prior experience in establishing and managing a data repository for HIPAA-protected data is desired. Familiarity with Ubuntu operating systems and the ability to code in Python are sought. Prior participation in federally funded projects is also useful. Interests in dynamic consent portals and interests/experience in engaging Tribal Nations in research processes is greatly desired.

The minimum salary for a Data Center Infrastructure Technologist IIII position is $79,193 annually. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
