Smithbucklin, a 650-person, employee-owned professional services company with more than 70 years of success serving the association market, with primary offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C. is looking for an Executive Director to serve The American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT). The Executive Director is responsible for working closely with the Society’s Board of Directors and its Executive Committee to implement and manage all policies, programs, services and practices for the Society. Executive Directors are responsible for the overall strategic, operational and financial well-being of external clients and internal Smithbucklin staff. This position is based in our Chicago office.

What You Will Do
• Advise client Board of Directors on matters regarding policy and provide professional advice and direction on the Society’s business.
• Provide leadership to client and staff to develop long-term strategic plans that support the Society’s mission and goals.
• Direct the Society and corporate financial budgets and maintain adherence to budget guidelines and objectives.
• Develop and maintain relationships and coalitions with healthcare-related societies, organizations and corporate partners, both in the United States and internationally
• Participate and support the planning of several annual Society meetings.
• Keep abreast of developments and changes within the Society’s profession.
• Write business plans and proposals that anticipate and/or meet the clients’ needs.
• Act as primary liaison between client organization (board, volunteers, committees, chapters), staff team and service units to ensure cooperative environment.
• Serve as Society spokesperson within the industry
• Proactively and strategically grow the organization’s revenues, influence, programs and membership.
• Provide leadership, support and actively participate in client committees and task forces.
• Allocate staff and resources to meet objectives and investigate and implement ways to improve the efficiency of a service or operation.
• Direct performance management of Society’s administrative staff; indirect supervision of Smithbucklin’s service unit staff assigned to client.
• Initiate and anticipate the potential to enhance and grow client business by identifying sales, educational and/or strategic opportunities, and represent company and its service to clients with a clear knowledge and understanding of external needs and internal capabilities.
This Role Might Be for You If…
• Minimum 10 years of related executive management experience
• Passion and understanding of our industry
• Demonstrated success with industry relationships and public relations efforts
• History of success in building and fostering innovative, growth-oriented strategic partnerships
• Demonstrated organizational, operational and leadership experience, with the ability to positively influence and instill confidence in others, including supporting, developing and leading administrative teams
• History of working effectively and developing strong relationships within various organizations and at various levels, from product managers to Board of Directors members
• Previous experience in an Executive Director role for a medical society or scientific society
• Proven ability to think strategically and implement tactically
Preferred Qualifications
• MBA or equivalent experience – Graduate degree preferred
• Experience working with organizations focused in cell therapy/blood and marrow transplant or hematology/oncology
• Successful track record with advocacy related to health access and equity issues.
• High level of strategic and financial management experience.
• Excellent communication skills verbal and written.

Our hybrid environment offers you the option to work from home two days per week. Employees will work a standard 40-hour week, with the possibility of additional hours based on project deadlines.
